Hot Rod is captured by the Machination as Scorponok spills the beans on his plan like a Bond villain. Meanwhile he sends the other Dinobots to attack Grimlock, realizing they may have a grievance with him after the trick he pulled years ago to attempt to get revenge on Shockwave. He starts lowering the control, figuring they’ll do the work instead, until Grimlock manages to get through to them. But the rest of the plan is in force as he sends in his Headmasters to break up the battle and win Skywatch’s contracts through a dummy corporation. But Skywatch has a back-up plan of their own…Shockwave!
What they got right: I knew Shockwave was going to show up eventually and the twist surprisingly works. While there are still multiple subplots going on they’re all in some way connected to the main plot rather than Furman’s usual MO of telling multiple stories at the same time.
What they got wrong: Say “Dinobots”. Now say “Dynobots”. Did you say them the same? Then how did Sunstreaker know Hunter was using an i rather than y? They sound the same if you use a long i, which I thought was the point of using the pun to explain the name being used by alien robots who in this continuity have never heard the name “dinosaur”? Had they been called “Dynabots” or something that might have worked. And is Scorponok’s big plan to win government contracts? I hope next issue has a further end goal than that.
Recommendation: When Furman is focused he can write a good story. Sometimes. This issue works. Might be worth checking out if the miniseries ends well.
