It’s December 1st, which means it’s time to dedicate as much space as I can to Christmas. Christmas specials, Christmas comics, Christmas music, Christmas reviews, Christmas commentaries…we’ll still have other stuff but if I can do something Yuletide related I will. And it starts with Saturday Night Showcase, where I post Christmas specials. I also have a playlist for Christmas specials as well as the BW Yule Log of Christmas music over at my YouTube channel and I’ll be making a sticky on the homepage for both playlists.

Tonight I showcase one of those specials. Before Hallmark media turned Christmas into Valentine’s Day with more decorations they made actual Christmas specials. Some of them were created to sell that year’s special Christmas plush animals, but it’s more than they do now despite having four TV networks at least to make them for. The Bears Who Saved Christmas was meant to sell Christopher and Holly, brother and sister teddy bears. In the special, the two teddies come to life to bring Christmas to their stranded family. It’s a bit on the lite side, but that’s not bad for starting the season with.

This was a nice Christmas special. I especially liked how the two teddy bears interacted with a real bear. One very noticeable aspect of this cartoon is that the beaver mother sounds like she was voiced by the same voice actress who portrayed Haggar the Witch in Voltron.
