What, I didn’t say I was done with Free Comic Book Day, just the ones from this year.
Atomic Robo FCBD 2019
Red 5 (comiXology release date June 3, 2019)
Note that this version does not contain the extra sample stories from other Red 5 titles at the time. If you want to know my thoughts on the others in the sampler here’s the review from that year’s Free Comic Book Day haul. The comic store has moved since then.
“Flight Of The Terror Birds”

STORY/ART: Scott Wegener

This story is also available for free on the official Atomic Robo website.
Atomic Robo and two of his colleagues go into the rainforest to track the not-so-extinct giant chicken. One finds them first, and she mistakes Robo for her missing egg…and is not deterred when he tries to fight back. His friends rescue him but they end up trapped on a rock until they can make a satellite call for rescue.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a fun story with some great artwork and designs for the birds (a couple of whom Robo punches, so there’s that) but I guess I’m just really used to Dr. Dinosaur popping up and causing problems. Compared to his antics “giant chicken mistakes Robo for missing egg” just doesn’t have the same excitement, and we never learn what happened to the actual egg. I’m not saying avoid it. I mean, it’s free and you should read the entire comic. It’s just not as good as the other offerings. However, I believe this does get me caught up with all the Atomic Robo in my library both physical and digital.
