The gang is hired to uncover the truth behind a mud monster believed to be the ghost of a businessman upset his descendant made some bad business decisions and put the house on hard times. I didn’t know the gang was hired to any of these ghost busting gigs. Usually they just stumble across them. However, there’s no mystery here as it’s mostly Shaggy and Scooby running from the monster. At least the story is entertaining and these feel like the characters.

In the back-up story five of the gang’s former busts gather as Revenge, Inc. to come up with a plan to take down Mystery Inc. However, they’re not anyone actually seen in the show that I recall, and they just use a device that puts a hypnotic whammy on the gang until Velma’s subconscious finally gets her to wake up. I don’t think they needed five people on this but it works as a different sort of mystery for the crew.

All told this was a pretty good issue. What it lacks in mystery it makes up for in getting the characters right, which is still better than most of the Archie run. Worth taking a look at.
