Scooby-Doo Team-Up #33
DC Comics (February, 2018; as posted to comiXology in part 6 of the trade)
“The Ghost Of Ferro Lad!”
WRITER: Sholly Fisch
ARTIST: Dario Brizuela
COLORIST: Franco Riesco
LETTERER: Saida Temofonte
EDITOR: Kristy Quinn
The Legion of Super-Heroes calls on Mystery Inc for help because Ferro Lad’s ghost is haunting their headquarters. After eliminating all the possibilities Velma comes up with an idea that Brainiac-5 is inspired by, showing that the “ghost” is actually the work of the Fatal Five. Together the two teams defeat the villains and the gang are made honorary Legionnaires.
What they got right: Fred’s obsession with pulling off masks in this series (and I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than the trap obsession in more recent Scooby shows) actually works to defeat a villain, while prior experiences with DC and Hanna-Barbera heroes are mentioned and are events the gang has learned from. Using Ferro Lad’s heroic sacrifice as part of a fake haunting mystery is a good idea, and there is at least some mystery solving involved for the reader.
What they got wrong: However, it’s very brief and requires knowledge of this period in DC history…or rather future. Otherwise it’s basically a promo comic for the Legion Of Super-Heroes.
What did I think overall: A fun little team-up but one more interested in promoting the Legion than being a Scooby adventure.
