Katrius and Katira, who it turns out are the same being, capture Janeway and Tuvok to feed off of, and summons their ancestor to feed off of Voyager. However, Seven Of Nine’s Borg components and less immune-built body comes up with antibodies against the being’s pheromones, with the Doctor not only uses to help Janeway and Tuvok fight off their influence but kills the being. With no other energy source the “ancestor” feeds off its own and seemingly perishes.
What they got right: The “Catira”, as the Doctor refers to it (rather than the Orsonians they were calling themselves, so consider this a bonus nitpick) are a rather interesting enemy as energy absorbers who alter their gender to match their target. (I wonder what they do with gay people, or even asexual people?) It’s not a threat you could get a lot of mileage out of a second time but as a finale villain it works.
What they got wrong: The Doctor’s assumption that there couldn’t possibly be any more Catira due to survival of the fittest. Even that other The Doctor we know and love (now there’s a crossover) wouldn’t make that leap without checking.
What I think overall: While a miniseries was made so we aren’t done with this series yet, this was a decent finale, though of course the show would continue.
