Rotor finds what he thinks is a device that shows the future, created by Robotnik. Instead it’s only shows the past. Wearing it, Sonic goes through the history of the series and miniseries up to this point before it explodes. Sonic makes peace with his parents and spends time talking to Sally, still not quite telling her how he feels. Then Sonic and Tails take off in their plane in search of Ixis Naugus.
Welcome to the comic book version of a clip show…except it was all new artwork. If it wasn’t for the Nagus search this could have been a finale, though I’m sure it was intended to catch new readers up before the new status quo of Sonic and Tails’ adventures. Some of the events and characters Sonic have met will show up again and he’ll make new friends and enemies, but there isn’t anything to this issue if you’ve already been following around and nothing on the cover shows it as a jumping on point.
I’m not going to say it’s pointless because it does catch new readers up. I just didn’t find it very interesting, as I’ve lost interest in most of this series (as evidenced by the lengthening list of comics for sale over at The Clutter Reports) it doesn’t do much for me. I didn’t even read it. It’s also kind of annoying that this issue takes place before the next issue of Knuckles The Echidna, which starts a new three issue story arc, but because there was no indication until I was almost done reading it I didn’t know until after I read that issue. Once the holidays are over I’ll get to that issue.
