The Hollywood types in production and “news” media (big name and small shill blog in it for the access alike) both would love to see superheroes disappear. They hate that geeky stuff and it keeps them from making the movies they want because that’s all they care about and won’t let anything be more popular than them, or will turn anything popular not for them into what they think is good storytelling because they’re the real gatekeepers of storytelling. So with so many superhero movies doing badly at the box office, they go on about “superhero fatigue”, that people are totally tired of superheroes and should clearly go back to making ONLY the movies and shows they alone think is worthwhile.
And then Spider-Man: Brand New Day happened, giving the DCU and Marvel Studios’ non-Sony productions a reality check their owners refuse to cash. Writing for Geeks & Gamers, contributor Marvin Montanaro goes over how making a good (if adaptation in accurate) superhero movie that has what people want to see in a superhero movie actually works. It’s not superheroes we’re tired of, because Hollywood keeps trying not to make them. And this article is from the start of the week.
