I’m not sure if I’m doing this Ultraman catch-up in order. We had a power outage last night and it’s kind of thrown my schedule off…and given how I’m still trying to form a proper schedule that just made matters worse! We were out for a few hours and I only stayed up late because the house needed to cool down enough to make sleeping possible. Learned my Game Boy Advance still works though…and I still suck at those games.
So tonight we have Ultraman Omega, the 35th entry in the Ultra series. This one offers something new. It also has some recurring elements, like the Ultra taking his own human form rather than bonding with a native, the unique transformation device, and he even uses a head-worn weapon similar to Ultra 7.
What’s different is that Omega awakens on Earth without his memories. And for the first time I’m aware of (or at least since Ultraman: The Adventure Begins, depending on how you look at their commander) we have a human who is aware of Ultraman’s dual identity from the start and serving as an ally. As a longtime supporter of civilian support, I approve. He also appears to have some power in his human form, something we don’t see from the other Ultras even if they’re adopting their own human form like Omega is.
Tonight’s presentation is also a bit different. We still have English dub and Japanese subtitles, but the offering from the Japanese Ultraman channel has no dub tracks. It’s just the subtitles. Also of note is how you’ll be able to watch the rest of the series, but we’ll get into that if you still care after seeing the first episode. Watch either or both, as they have different promotional ads and the sub has a translation of the end song (or the opening used as an end for the first episode? Not sure yet.). Enjoy.

As the English dub video states, for those of us in the US (not sure about other markets so take a look around), the rest of the series is only watchable with English language dubbing through streaming sources like Tubi, Pluto TV, or Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, Prime is the only one that has past episode 12…AND IT’S ALL BEHIND the @$#%$#% PAYWALL! I’m so glad later shows are on the YouTube channels for free with ads. I’m not even sure how to find episodes of Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Stars. Sub fans are luckier as the multi-language captioned dubs are up on the official Japanese channel.
With this I think we’re caught up on Ultraman shows, though I do have to go back and see what isn’t linked anymore in the really old ones and if I missed any there. So there should be something new next week if you aren’t a fan of this franchise. Of course, you probably didn’t read down here if you weren’t.
