BW’s Morning Article Link: The State Of Superheroes In Marvel

Feeling heroic yet, guys?

Feeling heroic yet, guys?

We’ve all joked about Marvel heroes not always getting along, but in recent years it’s gotten out of hand. Sometimes it seems like superheroes are too busy fighting other superheroes to fight the supervillains they’re supposed to be protecting us from, doing more damage than the villains to the community and each other. Douglas Ernst of The Douglas Ernst Blog, takes a brief look at the aftermath of the event nobody asked for, Civil War II, and questions what Brian Michael Bendis and other writers are doing to the superhero concept with these hero versus hero stories. Most of his commentary is in the embedded video, which is well worth a watch.

Going On A Cybertronic Spree

Remember yesterday in our Chapter By Chapter review of Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire when I was talking about R2 and 3PO flying the ship and it made me want to see more adventures with them? Well, it made me nostalgic for the show so I thought I’d boot up the intro. And then I found this:

I should probably save this for Transformers Thursday, where I review Transformers comics for “Yesterday’s” Comic, but this is too good to hold on to. Let me introduce you to The Cybertronic Spree. This is going to get weird. That’s right, we haven’t even started yet.

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Indie Comic Cartoons

WildCATS Adventures #2

As indie publishers began to rise up after the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the comic, animation studios took notice of potential kids shows and toylines, just as the heroes in a half-shell did when they became a toyline and cartoon. CBR lists off 16 such series, which oddly doesn’t include the Turtles, but does include a show and comic I’ve never heard of. Then again most of Adult Swim’s original shows aren’t worth watching anyway. They also tossed in a movie I didn’t know was made just to pad out the list. And I’m not sure Defenders Of The Earth should count since that was based on comic strips by one of the big names in newspaper strips and hardly independent.

For some reason this reminds me I still haven’t seen Spider-Man 3 or the Amazing Spider-Man movies.

Chapter By Chapter> Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire ch. 37

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Chapter By Chapter Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire

When last we saw our heroes they were running around a sewer working their way to Xizor’s palace to rescue Leia. Meanwhile, Vader tells Xizor that he knows the Dark Prince is trying to kill Luke and to stop because the Emperor has plans for the fledgling Jedi. And yet, Xizie is still thinking he has the upper hand even as things fall apart around him. He’s kind of an idiot that way. What’s going to happen to the not-so-lovable rapist next?
