IDW Loses The Transformers License

So…one of the events that I didn’t get to discuss during my hiatus earlier this month were rumors that IDW Publishing would be losing the license to Transformers and G.I. Joe, but now that it’s been confirmed I can safely say…I’m happy to hear it. If you were on this site back when I had money coming in and was buying Transformers comics you know I grew increasingly dissatisfied with the direction IDW was taking the franchise, and that’s before the recent universal reboot, which frankly would have been the perfect time to drop out as this was IDW admitting they took their universe as far as they could go, and this new reboot will now be unable to complete its story the way they wanted since at the end of the year it will be going to somewhere else.

Look, if you like what they did, fine. While the following list of my reasons why I’m happy to see this find a new home (rumors suggest Robert Kirkman’s Skybound studios, who usually publishes through Image comics, are in talks and I’ll go over my opinions there in tomorrow’s follow-up article) will contain very huge mistakes, including one longtime readers already know is coming, most of these come down to personal preference as to what I want to see in a Transformers series. I will also note a few things I liked. In fact, let’s start this sort of memorial there.

Chapter By Chapter> Star Trek: Prime Directive part 3 chapter 12

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Part 3: Talin chapter 12

Two more chapters to go until we finish part three. I looked ahead for page counts and while this chapter is short the next chapter is average length, while the two chapters and epilogue that make up chapter four are so short I may as well review all of part four together. That means we have two more weeks until the book is complete.

Last time we met the aliens responsible for all this, but not the one in charge. That’s about all I can say without spoilers because I try not to post that on the part that will appear on the home page if you’re just scrolling to see what the site’s all about. I can say that this really wasn’t what I was expecting, neat as the idea is, in a book titled after one of the most questionably used plot devices in the series. This chapter is pretty short, about five pages and a paragraph, so let’s see what they fit in what’s essentially half a chapter.

I’d say we still don’t have a movie appearance of Huntress and Cassandra Cain, just two characters (mis)using their name.

Jake & Leon #514> Masters Of Bad Press

I didn’t even know the next season was released.

In my YouTube catching up I just found out about this. I guess Kevin Smith would rather have nobody talk about him than hate him, which is the opposite of what I usually hear out of comic writers and others in entertainment. “At least they’re talking about me” is their usual defense, but why you’d be happy nobody is talking about you instead of trying to do a better job–or why you’re just happy to be talked about even if it’s to tell you how much you suck are thought patterns I can’t wrap my head around. There will always be people who don’t like your work, but why encourage them to not like you MORE?

Anyway, I went through my dresser drawers in this week’s Clutter Report.

We’re getting closer to the end of Star Trek: Prime Directive over at Chapter By Chapter, but we’re also on the last two of the DC Universe comics in my collection either physical or digital…unless you count the Super Powers Collection still being in the Free Comic Inside rotation. In two weeks (so remind me) I’ll let you know what long-running series will take its place. Also, I’ll be trying to reduce my long list of daily videos so prepare for a lot of those this week. And based on what happens with discussible topics this week I plan a new list of intros, like I’ve done in the past with Batman and Transformers for example. This trip around I’m hoping to do The Many Intros Of Superman, because I’ve already done Batman and the Super Friends/Justice League. He should be next. (I was actually considered doing Scooby-Doo but I’ll save that until we’re a bit closer to October or something.) I’m also going to take the previous Many Intros miniseries and put them into their own category list so you can find all the intros of your favorite long-running franchise…considering I’ve gone over it.

Have a good week, everybody!
