First a couple of announcements so scroll down if you don’t care. The first is that I’m planning to put together another Christmas Spotlight special and I’m giving you an opportunity add you voice, thus making it easier on me this year. Click here to find out more about it. It will open in a new window or tab so you can check it later.
The second is, in order to help promote the Fights I will be cross-posting this tournament to the That Guy With The Glasses blog space I have. Not a big deal, since anyone can get blogspace there (UPDATE: not anymore you can’t). It’s not a versatile as getting your own blog at WordPress or other supplier. But you get it with a free account and I wanted to comment on people’s stuff. So whatever works.
That said, last tournament we had a “free-for-all”. I decided to do 12 rounds of Bumblebee. Surprisingly, that took the entire Marvel run. So what’s the latest from Spacebooger?
I could do more Bumblebee from the Dreamwave and IDW years, but I’ll save that for another time. Can’t have too much of a good thing. What about Godzilla? I’m trying to get a video review done for a collaboration just because I thought it was fun. And Godzilla. Plus IDW will be putting out Godzilla comics soon. How else to show my love? Sure, I’d look like I was just ripping off Snell, who won the last tournament’s Grand Championship with Godzilla, but only because I would be. 🙂
So instead I’m just going to grab comics at random, and post the fight whether it’s good or not. Yes, fate or God will be deciding if my entries are good or horrible, but if there is no fight at all I’ll move on. So let’s see what came up this week! Oh, and….I have no clue how to do a “Fight Life” logo, so I’m just going to use the basic one for this game.
Round 1 of 12
The Battlefield: Scooby-Doo #75, “Ghost-To-Ghost TV” (DC Comics, New York Post Exclusive edition–no date posted, but I have “November 2005” in my records)
The Promoters: Earl Kress (writer), Scott Jerralds (penciler), Scott McRae (inker), Tom Orzechowski (letterer), Sno Cone (color–wait, that’s the name your going with for comic coloring? Really?), Harvey Richards (assistant editor), and Joan Hilty (editor)
Long story short, Scooby and the gang are trying to save‘s New Year’s Broadcast. That’s MTV with an extra M. Yeah. Our ghost for the story is hanging out on top of a tower when…
That’s right, old guy in a ghost costume gets hit in the junk by the New Year’s ball. That Shaggy is vicious. Oh, he makes it look like it was an accident, but he spent that night laughing manically I bet you.
Hey, there’s a second story in this comic. I can be lazy and use it next week. Actually, I think it’s better than this one, but as I’ve gone through the Fights of years past for “Best of Friday Night Fights”, I get an idea of what people go for and a good writer has to know when to play to the audience. 🙂
To those of you new to the Fights, clicking the above sign will take you to the official page of this week’s round (which goes live at 11PM ET). There you can see everyone who is competing for this tournament’s prize. You choose your favorites and vote for it. (Membership in the forums is only needed to comment, not vote.) The winners of the 12 rounds compete in a bonus round for the Grand Championship and win a prize, usually an Amazon gift certificate.
So if you have blogspace somewhere and a huge comic library, come join us.
