Sonic The Hedgehog #247
Archie Comics (May, 2013)“At All Costs” part one: “Fate Interrupted” WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Evan Stanley INKER: Terry Austin COLORIST: Matt Herms LETTERER: John Workman COVER ART: Lamar Wells, Terry Austin, John Workman, & Matt Herms ASSISTANT EDITOR: Vincent Lovallo EDITOR: Paul Kaminski
Team Fighters joins with the Arctic Freedom Fighters in a last-ditch effort to take down the Death Egg before it’s repaired. They’re joined by Silver, who FINALLY knows who the “traitor” is and has a change of plans in stopping…oh, I’ll just say it, it’s Sally, currently roboticized. Pretty sure I called that one. Back in New Mobotropolis, Team Freedom has finally learned the secret of the Tails doll, and it’s about to go Lovecraft on our heroes–at least until Eggman hits the Genesis wave again, leading to the upcoming Mega Man team-up.
What they got right: Sonic and Silver finally getting along. About bloody time! It looks like the Eggman chase is finally ending and while I do enjoy when the series goes into “travel around Mobius” mode I hope this is the end of this road trip. Team Fighters finally getting stuff done is also a welcome site.
What they got wrong: As the “Off-Panel” strip lampshaded, it’s the Genesis Wave/Fate of Sally bit again. Flynn writes that, too, but knowing you’re doing it again doesn’t change the fact that he’s doing it again, this time for the Mega Man crossover which seems as poorly placed here as it did in the Mega Man comic lead-in.
Recommendation: I think this may be significant for Mega Man fans going into the crossover as you see what caused the cliffhanger in the last Mega Man comic leading into “Worlds Collide”. Otherwise, unless you’ve been following events it may or may not be a good jump-on point. Give it a look and decide. If it talks you into checking out the issues leading up to this, so much the better.
No moment stood out as Best Scene. This is going to be a short nomination list this week, isn’t it?
