Last week we brought you three reviewers I thought would make a good fit for Channel Awesome. Well, since my plans fell through…again…here’s three more people I think should join their ranks. Again, my suggestions are based not on my enjoyment but on both the quality of the production and the ability to meet their “once every two weeks minimum” criteria.
Rowdy C Moore
Chris “Rowdy C.” Moore recently joined our ranks at Reviewers Unknown but I’ve caught his show longer than that. His primary show, TV Trash looks at terrible TV shows and amidst the ranting for comedic purposes does go into WHY the show was bad, occasionally looking at another show that did it right. Since he’s currently in a storyline that doesn’t show how typical his show is, we’re instead going to look at an example of that as he compares an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (a show I have my own issues with) to Desperate Housewives to show how to handle a story where a woman is supposed to be justified in shooting someone. He also goes further into problems he has with a similar show, Veronica Mars.
Chris also has a segment called “TV Treasures” where he looks at good shows. But I’ve shown you enough of this show, let’s look at some of his others. As “The Wrestling Mark”, Chris looks at pro wrestling events. Here’s the latest episode of that. Not being a wrestling fan anymore I haven’t watched this one and he hasn’t posted it to RU.
He’s also done retrospectives of the Legend of Zelda video game series and the TV versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I won’t show those here because I want to move on. They’re similar to TV Trash only he goes one game or season at a time. (Actually, I’m surprised he never went over the Legend Of Zelda cartoon although I do get why he avoided the CDi games. I’ve played Link: Faces Of Evil and even I don’t think it’s a good game.) Instead, let’s go to our next promotion.
RerezTV has a few different segments to chose from, but there’s one that makes this a good fit for whatever Blistered Thumbs becomes. Shane’s show Positives looks at some of the worst games ever produced and finds something good about it. Because the namesake show has a follow-up to it, let’s look at Shane finding 4 positive things to say about the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man.
The follow up shows how the franchise could be translated to the 2600 by looking at his wife, Ms. Pac-Man.
Yes, there are still people making games for the Atari 2600. Surprising, I know. As far as what else he does, he made his own audition video so I’ll go with that.
I’m not as fond of Gary Gamer for the same reason I didn’t like the Gamertag segment on X-Play. I didn’t find it insulting, but I didn’t find it funny. I need to check out more of his stuff, though.
And sadly that’s my full list, the two here and the three last week. Maybe it’s because I don’t watch enough reviewers, but again, quality and putting stuff out on time were important to me. There are some that I really like that fall slightly short of the mark and my biggest disappointment is that I don’t have any women on the list because are some good ones out there. It could be that I’m being a bit strict in my call, but I’m of the mind that Channel Awesome would and has to be. This is the site a lot of people want to be on and they only have so much bandwidth. There are some others that I enjoy who I would love to see on the site, but these five are the ones I feel have the best shot. Good luck to everyone sending in auditions and samples to CA and even if you don’t get on there are plenty of other sites to join up with. I’m rather biased to Reviewers Unknown for the obvious reason.
