There hasn’t been a good adaptation of Double Dragon, but the Marvel series was at least good. For this week’s entry I’m going with something I rarely do, and having heroes fighting heroes. Worse, brother fighting brother, which in the Marvel mode is the result of a huge misunderstanding. Then again, the last level of the game has Billy and Jimmy fighting each other.

“Ghost” round 6

The Battlefield: Double Dragon #3 (Marvel; September, 1991) “One Dragon On The Ground”

The Promoters: Dwayne McDuffie (writer), Tom Raney (penciler), Brad Vancata (inker/colorist), and Pat Brosseau (letterer)

Stelth used her illusion powers last issue to make Billy and Jimmy fight guys who look just like them. Believing they can’t summon the Dragon Force (although they actually could) they can’t believe both would survive (although they did). And so they think they’re taking out the final bad guy when they’re all down.

Sadly, the 90's art was still in effect.

However, the brothers had the same instructor from the same age. You’d think they could tell each other’s style. I theorize they were fighting so long that they aren’t thinking straight at the moment.

I'm assuming Billy's leg kicked Jimmy in the throat.

This is when Billy breaks out throwing stars. Except these aren’t used to throw into people.

Apparently the Dazzle Stars also begin the original Super Friend intro.

Then he breaks out one of his (and my) favorite weapon, the Dragon Lance, a glowing bo staff. But Jimmy recovers quickly enough to break out his own.

Billy went on to win the pole vault.

So what happens when two chi-powered lances hit each other?

"Man, that was some party last night."

“Man, that was some party last night.”

The fight seems to stop there, but Spacebooger demands a victory. So, after cutting quickly to Marian getting freed from her own trunk, where Stelth stuffed her (and no, that’s not MY typo, it’s actually spelled Stelth without the “a’  because it’s the 1990s), we get one last attack by the brothers.

"This is why I'm player 1!"

“This is why I’m player 1!”

There’s your blood, Fred. Two brothers fighting each other. I hope your happy.
