The Batman And Robin Adventures #9
DC Comics (August, 1996)
“Tears” WRITER: Ty Templeton PENCILER: Brandon Kruse INKER: Rick Burchett COLORIST: Lee Loughridge LETTERER: Tim Harkins ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Darren Vincenzo EDITOR: Scott PetersonBarbara’s toxicology teacher’s last job is one she wasn’t aware of…working for Ra’s Al Ghul. Of course it was more slavery than occupation but that’s nitpicking to Talia, who has come to bring him back. But while Batgirl may not be the fighter Talia is, she is smart enough to create a form of tear gas and rescue her teacher, forcing Talia to escape before the police arrive.
What they got right: It’s nice to see this version of Batgirl gets some spotlight in this comic. In the show at this time she still isn’t an official member of the Bat Team and seeing her outfox Talia was pretty cool. Also, Talia doesn’t kill Batgirl because they have little info on her and she isn’t sure what her connection to Batman is. This story also leads into the next issue as Batman confronts Ra’s over whatever it is Talia wants the doctor for.
What they got wrong: Talia shoots the guards at the lab with the same dart, and presumably the same will-dampening drug, she did the doctor but that never comes into play.
Recommendation: A good Batgirl story and one of the better stories from this incarnation. Pick this one up.
[…] they got right: Quick nod to that time Batgirl met Talia in a previous DCAU comic, which I don’t remember happening in the cartoon. It was the same […]
