During their post-Crisis reboot DC gave Etta Candy a complete makeover and most recently the New 52 put Amanda Waller on a diet so she looks like Halle Berry. Is it the call of their Warner Brother masters? What’s wrong with a fat or even plus-sized character that isn’t a joke or having some emotional issue, even when they aren’t at an unhealthy weight? Casey Gilly of Comic Book Resources explains why body diversity is as important as gender and racial diversity, and gives some examples of it being done right. By the way, I thought the Kingpin was supposed to be all muscle and not overweight? Can he really count?
