Here’s something I forgot to post back in August of 2016 because I wanted to make something attached to it, and didn’t get the chance. Because 2016 hated me. Still, tonight’s posting is a podcast, and while I wasn’t a guest, I still took part in it and even helped…from the chat.
Lean Into Artcast is a podcast that does what the old Art & Story I used to talk about (the archives aren’t even up anymore), a podcast about comic creation and new ways to think about making comics. It’s hosted by BW Virtual Mentor Jerzy Drozd and Rob Stenzinger, creators of the Art Soundoff Challenge I’ve taken part in the past two Novembers. Tonight we’re looking at episode 159: “Riffing Out A Story”. While Rob was not there that week, Jerzy was joined by Chris Giarrusso, creator of the G-Man comics (the character has snuck into both Jake & Leon and Captain PSA, so you know I enjoy his work), whom I’ve interviewed at a local convention before (I forget which one offhand), and Greg Schigiel, creator of the comic Pix and host of the Stuff Said podcast.
Meanwhile, in the chat was another artist, Ashley Knapp, as well as some schmuck named ShadowWing Tronix. When the time came to do the actual concept discussion (partway through the video), I entered the following suggestion:
Girl tries to help her sister learn her new superpowers despite not having any. Is she jealous? Overprotective? Fangirling out? Coming up with her own way to become a superhero?
From there we came up with…ah, why spoil it. The process is what this podcast is about so just watch the whole thing. Then you can see the fake cover I created to go with it. Luckily, Chris and Greg are funny guys and Jerzy is always cool. You can also read along with Ashley and my comments in the chat from the Google+ event page. Enjoy!
I was recently reminded of this after last week’s Jake & Leon comic, which has unintentionally turned into a story arc (won’t the Comic Strip Critic be pleased with me?). You’ll see the next one tomorrow. In the meantime, check out my interpretation of Fire Arms.
It’s also up at my deviantART page. For more of the Lean Into Artcast as well as other art instruction courses, check out their website. Jerzy has his own website, too. Chris Giarrusso has his own website. (There’s a fourth book in the G-Man series and I want the money to buy it!) Greg Schigiel’s Stuff Said podcast is right over here. Ashley’s website appears to have been taken over by fake anti-virus crap, so here’s her Google+ page until she fixes that. And you should already know where to fine me. I’m right here. 😀
