Continuing to fail in stopping Yankee Doodle Pigeon with his flying machines, Dick Dastardly tries to trick Mystery Inc. into doing the job for him. Claiming that he’s a “ghost pigeon”, Dastardly gets Fred and his inventor Klunk to create a trap that actually works. However, the gang soon see through the deception and turn the tables on Vulture Squadron. I kind of don’t want to spoil the rest.
What they got right: Shaggy and Scooby hiding with Zilly sounds about right. We have Muttley’s love of medals, and Fred teaming with Klunk to build the pigeon trap. The best part is learning why Vulture Squadron keeps trying to stop that pigeon.
What they got wrong: Again with the real estate developers. Look, I wasn’t expecting a mystery out of this one even by DC Scooby standards, but this running issue is getting monotonous. Not every Scooby-Doo villain is out to steal land. Revenge, hiding other criminal activities…you have to be one of the DC villains to not be stealing land in this story and even then it’s the first motive our heroes spit out. There’s only a few issues left and I want Fisch to have realized this by the end!
What I think overall: I somehow suspected this wasn’t going to be a mystery story but it was a fun little crossover, especially since the Penelope Pitstop crossover was fairly recent, both shows coming out of Wacky Races.
