Chapter By Chapter: 1st Phase Shifters & The Omega Capsule ch. 2

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Last time we had more speculation than answers. Two aliens who can take on various forms came to Earth, one secretly chasing the other. It’s time to see if any of our questions are going to be answered this week.

ICv2 is reporting that Dark Horse has worked to get a license for Mystery Science Theater 3000 in comic book form. There is no word yet as to which host/Mads team-up we’ll get, or how one does an MST3K comic, but I’ll keep my eyes open.

Jake & Leon #307: Webcomic: The Powers

And that's when they decided his secret identity was a tax accountant.

And that’s when they decided his secret identity was a tax accountant.

It’s amazingly hard to come up with stupid things.

It’s going to be extra doses of The Clutter Reports this week as I work on the next phase of my comic organizing mega-project. I’ll be updating the project all this week which means daily posts instead of weekly. Although we should be back to weekly on Sunday.

In comic review news we finally finish Thundercats: The Return. I wish this meant the next Thundercats series was an improvement but I’m trading rage for bad writing, a whole other facepalm source. We’re also finishing the tie-in to the Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon and starting the last miniseries of the Beast Wars comic. And since the mega-project means I probably won’t be doing any video stuff I’ll have a v-log to start my one video a month minimum plan for the YouTube channel. No, the announcement v-log doesn’t count. The last Saturday of every month should have a video from me, whether it’s a review, a v-log, or something from a convention. Or possibly other things. It will be up on Patreon for the right supporter (and I’m planning adjusting the reward tiers appropriately until I get a better video rhythm down to match the “based on the time and effort required” system until I can make weekly videos to justify it) as soon as I’ve edited and uploaded, but available here and my YouTube channel officially on the last Saturday of the month unless I was able to make another video before then. We’ll see how that goes.

Saturday Night Showcase: Hercules Gets MST3Ked

Heracles with club, lion skin and golden apple...

Heracles with club, lion skin and golden apples. The statue was found neatly buried under tiles with the inscription “FCS” (“fulgor conditum summanium”), indicating that it was struck by lightning then buried on the spot. Gilt bronze, Roman artwork of the 2nd century CE. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Was there ever a faithful adaptation of Hercules? 1958’s The Labours Of Hercules, known simply as Hercules in the US, practically spawned a genre of bad Hercules movies, including one with a dubbed over Arnold Schwarzenegger running around New York. Steve Reeves became an international star thanks to this movie’s adaptation to English. Maybe it was something in 1958? Nowadays it’s a cheesy joke. The proof is tonight’s showing is the Mystery Science Theater 3000 riffing of the movie, complete with annotations by Shout Factor. (Turn off annotations if you don’t want to see them.) Although if you’d rather see it in non-riff form, here’s a link here. I think. I wasn’t going to watch this a second time. Whichever way you decide to watch it, enjoy, won’t you?
