Friday Night Prize Fights: Punch Them (M)all!

I didn’t win any of the fights this tournament, which is too bad because I may have the biggest blast. Not the biggest ever. After all, I had a fight where a planet-sized robot punched the whole planet. You can’t outdo that! This one is a little more likely and I haven’t used it yet. And it’s a comic I reviewed this week. Let’s do some…damage.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Richard Hatch Passes Away

May 21, 1945 – February 7, 2017

May 21, 1945 – February 7, 2017

Showing how little attention I pay to my e-mail sometimes, I just found out that Richard Hatch, who played Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica, has passed away as a result of pancreatic cancer. It’s one of the shows I grew up with, which made it a big deal here at the Spotlight. He follows the show’s creator, Glen A. Larson, who passed on a few years ago. Hatch had a career beyond that, but was always connected to the show and worked for a revival, although Universal went with the darker remake instead. He will be missed by loved ones and fans.

Who Really Is For Honor’s Best Warrior?

One of the really anticipated games coming out is For Honor, a game that bends space/time and has Vikings, Knights, and Samurai fighting out to see who is the best. Two of the game theory channels I follow have weighed in on this debate going into the game, Game Theory and Gnoggin, and came to different conclusions. MatPat declared that all things being equal the Samurai would take this fight without flinching. However, Lockstin, joined by fellow theorist Doctor Wily (yes, named after Mega Man’s arch nemesis), concluded the Knight would win, with Lockstin adding things after his video was edited to further debunk MatPat. Who is right? Well, here are the two videos so you can decide for yourself.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Transformers: The Animated Movie #1

Guys, the enemy’s behind you. (Yes, I used that joke for the first Marvel review.)

Transformers The Animated Movie #1

For the release of the 20th anniversary edition by Sony BMG (the third distributor of the classic series in the US, Family Home Entertainment being the first and Rhino the second, plus a different company for other countries–Shout Factory currently does it for the US) IDW released a new adaptation of Transformers: The Movie. Sadly it’s the only Transformers comic Budiansky has done for IDW. I mean, the guy practically created the Transformers, taking the initial story ideas, creating most of the name, writing pretty much all the tech specs, writing or editing a huge chunk of the comics for Marvel, and all IDW has him do is a crummy movie adaptation? For shame, guys!

Here’s what I’ve decided to do. I’m going to review this comic like I did the Marvel one. I’ll go back and forth between reposts or remakes of the Marvel review, comparing the two adaptations even though this one ends sooner in the story (Optimus on his death bed but not yet dead) and I think there were at least four issues of the IDW adaptation versus Marvel’s three. But what’s fascinating to me are the changes more than the movie I already own on DVD (I have the aforementioned 20th anniversary edition, but now there’s a 25th by Shout Factor).

BW’s Morning Video Link: Pirates Of Dark Water Review

The Pirates of Dark Water

This is for the benefit of two friends, one offline and one online. My friend Sean is a big fan of The Pirates Of Dark Water, a show I also enjoy. And another friend, fellow Reviewers Unknown member the Cartoon Hero, just reviewed it. I first saw it as Dark Water, a five-part miniseries for Fox Kids’ weekday lineup, but ABC picked up the full series, changing the name for some reason. I’ve got a copy of the Fox version around here someplace, but it’s not a good recording, and someday we’ll get to the few comics I have.
