BW goes Walking Around ConnectiCon 2016

ConnectiCon logo

I was only able to go to the 2016 ConnectiCon on Saturday with my cousin, which means no photos and only three panels for BW Panelling. However, I was able to get a few interviews (only a handful of new people and a lot of them were busy) and enough cosplayer footage for two videos. Tonight is the first one and I’m hoping to have the second one ready for tomorrow or Saturday. So here’s the first one.

BW’s Morning Article Link: A Live-Action Pokemon Movie?

I know just enough about Pokemon to know this is one.

I know just enough about Pokemon to know this is one.

With the success and controversies of Pokemon Go, an app game where you can capture Pokemon by getting out of the house and visiting cool places–and for some reason cemeteries because respecting the dead is old hat (seriously, show some dang respect for the grieving, you don’t need a Gastly that bad!) there is story-related news. While Pokemon’s animated movies haven’t been on the big screen in a long time (while still dubbed for home video) there is a bidding war for a live-action Poke-film! You already know my thoughts on that, but if not here’s a second article for you to read this morning!

Filler Video: The Life & Times Of Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #3

Scooby-Doo and his friends are really popular. They’ve had numerous shows, many different comic publishers. some terrible live-action movies, and even a video game or two. However, there are a few things I learned in this video from Comics Alliance that I’m using while I continue working on the ConnectiCon videos. (One day, but I think there is enough cosplay footage for two videos so they don’t run really long.)

BW’s Morning Article Link: Pre-Ultraman

I’ve mentioned the Ultraman franchise in the past and will probably do so again. For the uniformed it’s about giant superheroes who fight Godzilla-type monsters. This isn’t surprising when you realize Eiji Tsuburaya’s big break was working on early Godzilla movies and this was his studio, Tsuburaya Production. August Ragone of The Good, The Bad, And Godzilla as well as numerous books on kaiju, posted on his site about a transition show between the first Ultraman and it’s predecessor, the X-Files style show Ultra Q (which predates the Fox series by decades).

Chapter By Chapter> Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire ch. 15

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Chapter By Chapter Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire

In the last chapter Xizor continued playing head games with Darth Vader, secure that he’s in a position where he won’t find a lightsaber going through his neck while it’s being Force Choked. In today’s chapter our heroes get closer to asking for Xizor’s help finding whomever put the price on Luke’s head, not knowing it’s Xizor trying to frame Vader. And somehow this feels more like Star Wars than the prequels.

BW’s Morning Article Link: He-Man Meets Thundercats

botp-cats_thundercats

DC Comics is announcing a crossover between Masters Of The Universe and Thundercats. Unlike the recent Voltron/Robotech team-up this actually makes some sense. However, considering how dark the DC MOTU comics are and how DC’s last crossover went (remember?) I’m lacking the enthusiasm of this one most other 80s kids will.

Jake & Leon #279: Leon’s Staycation

He still had a better time off than I did.

He still had a better time off than I did.

And now we’re all done with vacations. Jake spent more time with his family, and maybe visited his old friends in California. Maybe there’s a story there someday but it’s back to the usual commentaries and weak jokes.

Had a good time at ConnectiCon, even if events had me only going one day and leaving early. I also didn’t get to meet any of my friends who went this year but I was there with my cousin. She got Michael Dorn’s autograph, which she was happy about. I didn’t take many pictures because of my limited time; I went mostly video, which you’ll see before the week is out. Then I work on the few interviews I did and three episodes of BW Panelling, two of which involve Star Trek because that’s just how things happened this year. It’s better than nothing, right?

The Clutter Reports returns next week, possibly with a review due to not having time to clean anything between doctor visits and convention footage organizing. Plus my legs are killing me right now. Not much else to report. Anyone else go to ConnectiCon? How’d you like it?
