Batman: The Animated Bible> Scarecrow And His Friends

Batman The Animated Bible logo

We’re getting closer to the end of this series, kids. Scarecrow is the last of the lengthy character reports in the show bible for Batman: The Animated Series. However, there are a few short synopsis of some other villains for the Dark Knight to spar with, and we’ll look at those as well.

Scarecrow is interesting to me because he had a strong presence the Super Powers Team episode “The Fear” that I bring up so often. In the show he uses one of Batman’s own weapons, the ability to create fear, to commit his crimes. But what did they originally intend?

Barbara’s toxicology teacher’s last job is one she wasn’t aware of…working for Ra’s Al Ghul. Of course it was more slavery than occupation but that’s nitpicking to Talia, who has come to bring him back. But while Batgirl may not be the fighter Talia is, she is smart enough to create a form of tear gas and rescue her teacher, forcing Talia to escape before the police arrive.

What they got right: It’s nice to see this version of Batgirl gets some spotlight in this comic. In the show at this time she still isn’t an official member of the Bat Team and seeing her outfox Talia was pretty cool. Also, Talia doesn’t kill Batgirl because they have little info on her and she isn’t sure what her connection to Batman is. This story also leads into the next issue as Batman confronts Ra’s over whatever it is Talia wants the doctor for.

What they got wrong: Talia shoots the guards at the lab with the same dart, and presumably the same will-dampening drug, she did the doctor but that never comes into play.

Recommendation: A good Batgirl story and one of the better stories from this incarnation. Pick this one up.

Remember when the United States Postal Service had this odd idea to paint their mailboxes like R2-D2 for awhile? Well, Japan’s All Nippon Airways did one better and painted airplanes like R2-D2. ScreenCrush’s Britt Hayes has the details and video of the reveal featuring R2 and his pal C-3PO.

Friday Night Fights: Batman Versus Windows And PETA

Enough sick days. I need to return to writing before I forget how to. That’s right, folks. The side effects are gone (except for this annoying cough and getting my sleep cycle on course) and I’ve missed enough Friday Night Fights. We even have a new tournament going.

James Nathaniel Toney (born August 24, 1968) is an American professional boxer and former three-weight world champion. He has won the IBF middleweight, IBF super middleweight and IBF cruiserweight world titles, as well as having challenged for the WBA and WBC heavyweight titles. Toney was voted by both The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America as their “Fighter of the Year” in 1991 and 2003.

If I understand our Master Of Ceremonies his nickname was “Lights Out”, possibly referring to what he did to his opponents. Or he was really that bad, I don’t follow boxing. I do follow superheroes, however, and it’s time to see Batman’s eternal war against crime. And windows. And animals. This is one I’ve been sitting on since I got sick for the second time.

Morning Article Link: You Will Believe This Is A Tagline

Alien (film)

Alien (film) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A tagline is that little sentence or two on movie posters and trailers that hook you into the movie. For example “In space, no one can hear you scream”. (If you get the addition, “but they can hear you Starscream”, I envy you’re making Botcon.) ScreenCrush has released a list of 50 of their favorites and while I don’t agree with the entire list most of them show what a good tagline is.
