BW Programming Note> Art Soundoff Returning?

I know, I missed another week of Jake & Leon. This week I was just too tired to get anything done on it. I’ll talk about it in the next Art Soundoff but scheduling issues has been a problem for me and I’m getting sick of it. It’s why I missed so much BW content this week.

I haven’t been completely idle mind you. Over at The Clutter Reports this week I sorted a bunch of cables and other electronics into something I can more easily go through.

This week I’m hoping to be back in business with reviews and Art Soundoff. The trick is getting my scheduling right so I’m not scrambling to make my deadlines. It doesn’t look good when you miss your own deadlines. This included more Chapter By Chapter reviewing of TekWar as well as other topics I hope you enjoy. I was hoping to do both Art Soundoff and the Daily Quickpost (I have a video scheduled for Monday) because the filler backlog is so big but it looks like at least starting Tuesday I’ll have to ditch the Quickpost and put Art Soundoff there just to give me less to do here so I can get some comic work done in the hopes of making that deadline. (Jake & Leon on Sunday and Captain Yuletide by Christmas.) Have a great week, everyone!

Saturday Night Showcase> Ultra Galaxy Fight–The Destined Crossroads (ep 1)

I’m late tonight not for the usual reasons but because I was waiting for this to premiere and it’s not like they’re worried about my posting schedule over at Tsuburaya’s official Ultraman YouTube channel.

The Destined Crossroads is the third miniseries in the Ultra Galaxy Fight series, continuing the story of the Ultramen and Ultrawomen from across the franchise, including international versions, gathering together to protect the universe and their home from the Absolutions, supposedly “absolute lifeforms” who want to make the Land Of Light their second home. We’ve seen this war take place through New Generation Heroes and The Absolute Conspiracy, the first two miniseries in this YouTube series.

In episode one the Ultras must come up with a plan to find and rescue their princess while preparing for a foe that has shown themselves capable of standing up to the heroes. Now Tartarus, the lead soldier, is after the Devil Splinters, created by the remains of the evil Ultraman Belial, which can offer resurrection but also corruption of any living being, be they organic or mechanical. For your preferred taste I’m offering the English dub and the Japanese dub (unless you know Japanese turn on subtitles for that version). Enjoy!

BW Programming Note: Taking A Reset Break

It’s 5:21 PM ET when I’m writing this, which means I’m really close to my 6PM ET post time. I don’t have time to post anything. My schedule lately has been a mess with stuff going on and being tired. So I’ve decided not to try shove something in here just to make post time (unless you count this) and I’m just going to let Friday be a wash. Maybe I’ll sneak an Art Soundoff into Saturday with the regular Saturday posting (possibly in place of the comic review because the Golden Age comics take a while to get through, so Art Soundoff and Saturday Night Showcase) and hopefully have a chance to come up with a Jake & Leon post for Sunday. I don’t even have a good concept because the week’s been a big distraction.

Hope you’re all doing well. See you when I’m able to give you a quality product.

Sing Me A Story> Big Bad John and its sequels

logo for the Sing Me A Story article series

Before he was selling sausages for your breakfast, Jimmy Dean was an actor and singer before his passing in 2010. However, while he’s mostly known for his variety show The Jimmy Dean Show, also notable for the first appearance of the Muppet piano playing dog Rowlf, there’s only one song of his I really know, 1961’s “Big Bad John”. Even then all I remembered was the refrain, but for some reason, despite never hearing the song in years that was playing in my head this week so I checked it out.

I thought the song was going to be like “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown”, which I should totally do someday, only set in the Old West. I just got that from the name though, because when you actually hear the song it’s about a drifter who comes to work in a mine and is very much not meaner than a junkyard dog. If anything, Big John wasn’t bad, he was a hero. Hero enough that they didn’t let him die in the sequels. Yep, this was one of those songs that had sequels, only one of them by Dean himself. Let’s start were all stories start, where the legend began.
