BW’s Morning Article Link: Comics In Theaters?

With comics being the source material for many movies (especially superheroes but occasionally non-superhero comics get a movie, like Wanted or Men In Black) and with some theaters selling merchandise to offset the decline in ticket sales maybe it’s time for comics that are getting a movie to get sold in theaters? Building off of what’s in that article I think either a theater exclusive edition of a story important to the movie might work, and/or maybe team with a local comic store (who are having their own financial troubles thanks to reduced readership) to put out a selection of back issues with a pointer to the comic store to find more comics. That would be a good collaboration for both until we can get comics sold outside of comic stores again so people can find them. And a special edition comic may bring a comic collector in to get one and maybe they stay for a movie or buy a snack or drink on the way out. Something to think about.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Iron Man vol 3 #60

Time for one of those paragraphs that means nothing in the archives but matters at the time: I had a tooth pulled on Monday and wasn’t up to writing anything. Tuesday all I could do was this comic review, so the Star Trek comic that should be reviewed today will be reviewed tonight instead to get the comic reviews all squared away. That means only one feature article this week besides the Chapter By Chapter review and the finale of The Many MANY Intros Of Transformers. I’m sorry it’s the best I can do but when your dizzy there’s only so much you can do. On that end I can’t promise it will be on time. With that, the review.

So there are worse things than a trip to the dentist!

Chapter By Chapter: Spider-Man–Carnage In New York chapter 2

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Last time Spidey goofed up but you can understand his perspective on things. Dudes in strange outfits hunting some scared guy happens at least once a month for him. Tonight’s chapter is a bit short and focuses on Carnage. Since I already went over his history in the reveal and last chapter I think we can just move on.

Black and white really doesn’t help Carnage, who should be red. It makes him look too much like Venom.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Disney Drops The Fox

Disney continues to alter the deal. 20th Century Fox has existed with that name since 1935, when Fox Film and Twentieth Century Pictures merged. Now Disney has decided to change the iconic name. This also affects Fox Searchlight, their independent film arm. I wonder if that’s to separate itself from Fox News and Fox Sports? So how does this affect the Fox TV channels and the Fox Network they got in the deal?

Jake & Leon #440: The Director’s Cut

Plus Rise Of Skywalker has so many cuts from what I’ve heard you could make a box set of just this movie.

I keep seeing demands for the “Snyder cut” of Justice League, which is still on my Finally Watched list (and thanks to an HBO/Cinemax sneak preview weekend I may get to watch it) and now it’s the “Abrams/Lucas” cut of Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker. I haven’t followed this all too much because that movie is also something I haven’t seen yet but I have to wonder what Hollywood is thinking with these properties they clearly don’t understand. Comics have also suffered this, at least at DC and Marvel. Is it really that hard to find creators who enjoy these properties enough to make a good version with going all fanboy on it?

Anyway, over at The Clutter Reports I organized my cassette tapes. I know, not very exciting but the clutter organizing is the main purpose of the site, not the reviews. Of course next week is another Transformer toy review.

This week I’m going to see the dentist and a tooth may or may not be pulled. The tooth broke but ever since the dangly part disconnected I haven’t noticed anything. It still acts like a tooth is there so we’ll see what happens there. I am concerned I’ve been using too many filler videos lately (someone even called me out on using one recently but he was kind of a jerk about it and I choose filler videos whose storytelling examination is a perspective I agree on enough that I don’t have to comment on. If I disagreed strongly then it’s there for context since I like to make sure opposite opinions are properly explored in context and properly illustrate what that opinion is. This is why I don’t write about politics because that’s not allowed anymore.

If I do get the whole week we have chapter two of the Spider-Man novel, more regular comic reviews, a commentary about a rumored new plan by DC to screw up their own company, and maybe another pilot review. I should be able to conclude The Many MANY Intros Of Transformers this week, which means I need something new. I just hope I get to finally decide what to call that series since I’m bouncing a few names around and I need a name so I can create a logo. Anyway, have a good week!
