Apokolips does have a heck of a travel agency.

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #45

DC Comics (March, 2019; as featured in the trade “It’s Scooby Time”)

“The Greater Escape”

WRITER: Sholly Fisch

ARTIST: Dario Brizuela

COLORIST: Franco Riesco

LETTERER: Saida Temofonte

EDITOR: Kristy Quinn

While visiting Mister Miracle’s escape show the gang are introduced to hordes of Apokolips in the wor…well, let’s be honest. There is no good way. Granny Goodness’ monsters capture Barda, Daphne, and Velma. The boys travel with Mister Miracle, Shilo, and Oberon to Apokolips where the villains try to force Mister Miracle into a death box with the promise not to escape. Luckily he, Fred, and Shiloh manage to do and end run while the girls do an escape trick of their own. Everyone returns back to Earth. Now if Shaggy can get some pointers to escape their next case.

What they got right: I’ve seen stories with just the girls (and Scooby because it’s his comic) like the time they teamed with Wonder Woman but it’s nice that the guys get to do something this time around. The girls aren’t just damsels in distress as they take part in their own rescue. The story itself is fun and seeing everyone use their brains to get out of a situation they can’t fight out of is always neat.

What they got wrong: Shaggy and Scooby don’t really get to do anything. It’s Fred and Shilo who do the heavy work while Mister Miracle does his thing. Even Oberon manages to play a part. And we get the real estate developer bit again. Will someone show Fisch some more episodes?

What I think overall: What it lacks in Scooby it makes up for in Mister Miracle. While anyone could have done Fred’s bit at least he gets to take part. I enjoyed it.
