I don’t really have time for RPGs. They take a lot of time investment and I wish I had it. I barely have time for the longer story-based games I have now. That why I still want to do that Let’s Play series, to get those played. I’m also not really a huge fantasy guy. However, I have paid attention to the debate over how skimpy female characters dress in fantasy stories. Sometimes that may not be practical and just asking for an arrow to the heart from any guy who isn’t salivating over cleavage and can actually aim. On the other hand, sometimes a lighter outfit is highly practical and of course it will look sexy on someone who takes good care of themselves in order to better sneak around or fight. James Harrington compares the various outfits used by female companions in the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim game and uses his own as an example of how to get it practical. For example, not going commando in arctic waters.

Uncanny Origins is an anthology series focusing the origins of the X-Men and later other Marvel characters up to that point. It’s done in a cartoony style and meant to introduce younger readers to the Marvel universe. A rather novel idea these days.

Chapter By Chapter> 1st Phase Shifters & The Omega Capsule ch. 1

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Leafing through the book these appear to be really short chapters, so at some point I may end up combining chapters just to get a decent length in. For example, even combining the introduction and first chapter I’m looking at four pages, and only two of them are full. But this Chapter By Chapter, not Chapters By Chapters, so I’m going to try and stick to the formula. On Friday we looked at the basic premise for this book. It’s time to finally see what the Shifters are phasing. Or something like that.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Pilots Kicked Out The Backdoor

Star Trek Assignment Earth #2

I recently saw an episode of CHiPs, the 80s cop show about the California Highway Patrol. (Fun fact: not the first show about that particular branch of law enforcement in CA.) There was an episode called “Force Seven”, about an elite team of police officers who use martial arts instead of the usual police tactics. Ninjas were just getting popular. It felt like a backdoor pilot, although frankly it wasn’t that interesting as a series. It might have worked as a TV movie but it feels like scenes were missing that should have been there.

What’s a “backdoor pilot” you ask? Well, it’s an episode made with the intention of producing a new show. If they can’t sell the pilot, turn it into an episode of a currently popular show and hope it plays well with the public. Me-TV, the retro television network I saw the aforementioned episode on, has a list of 11 backdoor pilots that never got a series (or in one case did but with a different cast), including that one and one more familiar to BW readers. (The one up above if you’re new here.)

Jake & Leon #306: Ship Repairs

You know Adam and Jamie already have the plans.

You know Adam and Jamie already have the plans.

Anybody else watching Mythbusters: The Search on Science Channel? It’s good the busting can continue, even if Adam, Jamie, Tory, Kari, and Grant aren’t there. I hope all five are the guest judges in the finale. Also…another Linkara appearance. Sick of him yet? Too bad, go watch his show. He was kind enough to point me to an episode for reference, which screwed up my intended joke, but as Ron Lucas once said (through a puppet), hey, man, learn to adjust.

I hurt my back last weekend, which means I haven’t been able to help my dad fight the Connecticut snowfall this week and that bugs me. It also means I had to delay the next phase of my comic organizing project again, and that’s getting to me as well. But at least I found something to do, and cleaned up my Rolodex.

Tomorrow we being our read-through of The 1st Phase Shifters And The Omega Capsule, and read a post-Zero Hour story that doesn’t have a connection to Batman! So we get an Adventures Of Batman & Robin issue to review because Batman will not be denied! Also we’re starting a new Marvel series, the anthology Uncanny Origins, as well as another on Friday. I only have a few issues of Oh, My Goddess but we’ll be looking over those over the next few weeks. And since I’ve already reviewed the Marvel adaptation of the animated movie, I’m going to jump to IDW’s, so go hunt down the Marvel reviews since I’ll be referencing them in the IDW adaptation reviews. IDW’s of course came out well after the movie so they aren’t working with an early draft. This should be closer to the final production. Let’s hope this is a good week.
