Jake & Leon #301: Undecoration

At least I had a excuse to have them down most of last year.

At least I had a excuse to have them down most of last year.

I haven’t used the hosting set a lot lately have I? The news station and podium have shown up but when was the last time I used the hosting couch?

It looks like the video review will be next Saturday. Yes, it’s late for a Christmas review but it was teased and so it shall be made. I also somehow scheduled the Saturday Night Showcase for Sunday, which is okay because this comic is posting late anyway. Surprise doctor visit, surprise snowfall, it’s like 2016 is reaching out from the grave to torment me just a little more before it goes away. As if the remaining surgical scars aren’t enough. Luckily the ones that will go away are doing so.

We’re saying goodbye to Mobile Police Patlabor this week, as I’ll be reviewing the last issue I have. I don’t remember if it was the last Viz adapted, like Bio-Booster Armor Guyver, which last I heard is still being produced in Japan so that makes me sadder–although I hear it’s really dark at this point, even for the violent series it was. What does the creator think he’s making, an American comic? Speaking of which, The Adventures Of Spider-Man will be ending. I’m also hoping to get a text-based movie review or two out since we’re having problems with the new cable provider, which means we might end up switching again. So I have two movies that I’ve been wanting to watch and finally caught on TV. (Nothing Star Wars before a certain someone asks.) So expect those belated reviews if I can get them done around the video review I’m hoping to have up on Saturday.

I don’t think there will be any surprises this week. Of course, that’s what I though last week.

Saturday Night Showcase: Star Wars Droids

Star Wars Droids #2

Thanks to a surprise doctor appointment the video’s been delayed again, although it may be to my benefit in that I have a little longer to do it right by next Saturday. I’d probably drop it if I hadn’t teased it already, so let’s ride the droid train all the way to the station. This past week we’ve seen R2 and 3PO fly the Millennium Falcon, watched Transformers sing their theme song, looked at the actual theme song, and the animated segment that led to the series. So…let’s watch the series! It may not be public domain but since the rights holders (the Disney-owned Lucasfilm) seems to not want to do anything with it, maybe this will encourage them.

The Ewoks/Droids Adventure Hour was a Saturday morning series produced by Canadian animation studio Nelvana for ABC and Lucasfilm. The first half, Ewoks, followed those little teddy bear warriors from Endor as tried to protect their homes and have fun. Since some of the one from Return Of The Jedi were kids, I think this was a prequel to that movie and possibly the live-action movies that followed. Star Wars Droids: The Adventures Of R2-D2 and C3PO was closer to the original movies. While the troubles our metal heroes got into each week were less epic than their times with the Rebels (or the Republic, thanks to the prequels and spin-off cartoons), they still were made of multi-episode story arcs, the first of which we’ll see tonight. R2 and 3PO find themselves in the employ of a racing team (thankfully minus pod racing) who run afoul of mob son Tig Fromm and his reluctant, snarky bodyguard Vlix, whom you may remember from one of the Star Comics reviews. That means this is actually connected to a previous BW review as well as the first storyline, that as far as I know wasn’t released on home video. There’s no reason not to use this to introduce you (or reintroduce for some of you) to this cartoon. Enjoy the four-part adventure!

BW’s Morning Article Link: More On The Axanar Lawsuit

Star Trek reboot

While I’ve questioned some of the fan film rules Paramount made recently, I understand why did they did it in light of Axanar, a fan film about a starship captain who was a decorated hero but, when we see him in the show, has gone rather mad. Comics Alliance has an update on that lawsuit. Personally I think the film went too far compared to other fan productions I’ve reviewed and showcased on this very site and now it’s ruined things for other fan films just so it could be cinematic and brag about the big name stars it has on board. Sometimes fans dream a little too big when working with properties not their own.
