Filler Video: Portal – The Adventures Of Ratman

Portal is my favorite modern video game. It’s challenging, it’s fun, it isn’t gory…it’s everything I look for in a video game, plus a good story. I was part way through the second game before the reinstall but I hope to return to it.

Last week I mentioned the Comicstorian and the other channels I haven’t had time to explore. One of them is Eligible Monster, where they do for games what Comicstorian does for comics. Well, the two channels collide in this tale, the history of “Ratman”, the guy who leaves you clues in the first game about the cake being a lie and that GlaDOS isn’t to be trusted. There was a comic released that told the story of how he ended up as your unseen whistleblower and this is a brief summary of that book. Meanwhile, I need to figure out if I can even make ConnectiCon this year and work on my cousin’s videos.

Morning Article Link: More Spider Shenanigans

io9 black spidey article

I have talked about this and talked about this and I don’t know what I can add to this discussion. What can I say that explains that racism has nothing to do with depicting a character correctly. Incorrectly, maybe. And yes, I’m looking at Big Hero 6. Why don’t I hear complaints about THAT movie but everybody complains that Spider-Man is being done right? Douglas Ernst takes a look at the “controversy” that the new Marvel Studios/Sony version has a white dude again. Take a good look at the quote from Stan Lee. I’ve said the same thing every time this nonsense comes up.

Batman: The Animated Bible #3> Robin And Alfred

Batman The Animated Bible logo

The story bible for Batman: The Animated Series stresses in the supporting cast section that they don’t want to pad out the stories with unnecessary characters, but even though they wanted all of the focus on Batman they understood the importance of the supporting cast. Robin would go on to share billing with his partner while Alfred may be at his best here. (Alfred from The Batman is a good second in my opinion because it uses so much of what Efrem Zimbalist Jr. brought to the character.)

The Dark Knight without the Boy Wonder doesn’t feel right and thanks to this show Alfred’s absence is even worse. So what were the intentions for the characters compared to what we ended up with?

With a new Supergirl TV series coming, viewers won’t know that there was a point in time when the Girl Of Steel was dead in the DC Universe, until a new continuity finally brought her back (after she had been replaced with a shapeshifter from another dimension), although not quite back. Brian Cronin discusses the death of Supergirl in Crisis On Infinite Earths in the latest installment of “The Past Was Close Behind”.
