“Yesterday’s” Comic> Dark Horse Super Sampler

I’m sorry, that should read “Super Dark Horse Super Sampler”.

Dark Horse Super Sampler #0

Dark Horse Comics (posted to comiXology October, 2015)

DESIGNER: Justin Couch

ASSISTANT EDITOR: Everett Patterson

EDITORS: Scott Allie, Patrick Thorpe, Daniel Chabon, & Jim Gibbons

PUBLISHER: Mike Richardson

A series of stories featuring Dark Horse’s original (and I think one licensed) superhero comics. Dark Horse makes few superhero comics. A lot of them are in the sci-fi, fantasy, or horror genre. At one point I think they even tried for a shared superhero universe but I don’t think they do that anymore. What you’ll get below is a more relax view of each story as I go through the book.

Remembering Mystery Of The Batwoman

Wrong Batwoman.

It’s amazing how limited my media library is sometimes. Also, wow did my linework come out crap that strip.

Anyway, that’s not the Batwoman I’m here to discuss. Before Kate Kane but well after Katy Kane a different Batwoman appeared in the DCAU and it’s a version I wish more people were aware of. Batman: Mystery Of The Batwoman is the DCAU direct-to-video Bat-movie that never seems to get enough love, unlike Sub-Zero and the theatrical Mask Of The Phantasm. So when What Culture Comics posted a video about it yesterday I decided I wanted to show it. I could have done the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer and make this a Fandome week but honestly the only cool thing about it is Wonder Woman using her magic lasso to swing across lightning bolts like Spider-Man, which is just as ridiculous and just as awesome as it sounds. Nothing was comparing to that.

The second half of the video does contain spoilers and I will try to avoid them in my own comments but this otherwise is a movie worth looking into. Hopefully the non-spoiler half of the video by Ewan Ruins Things will convince you to give it a shot.

BW’s Daily Article Link: Why Bill & Ted Have Daughters

I need to get some more Bill & Ted images in my library.

With so many choices in Hollywood today being made for the sake of token representation instead of the needs of the story or adaptation fidelity news that Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan would be shown with daughters instead of sons in Bill & Ted Face The Music annoyed fans who were sure they had sons at the end of Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Franchise co-creator and writer Ed Solomon appeared on Midnight’s Edge to defend the choice as a story decision and that they never really stated what gender “little Bill” and “little Ted” were. This article includes a summary of the interview if you don’t want to watch the video but they have that up there as well.

Gotham Knights Trailer Drops…Without Batman

See, THIS is how you make an awesome Bat-logo. And this game doesn’t even have Batman in it. Because he’s dead.

With DC and Warner Brothers being obsessed with Batman for all the wrong reasons, it makes sense that another bat-themed video game has been made. Only with Gotham Knights Batman doesn’t play a role, because like I said he’d no longer among the living. Instead you will play as one of four Gotham heroes, as you’ll see in the trailer below. I’m a little iffy on dead Batman but maybe the game will make up for it?

BW’s Daily Article Link: DC’s Fandome Did Not Impress

Sorry, but the “global experience” was a fancy podcast, like so many of other virtual conventions. (I think somebody did one in Second Life, where at least you could walk around and actually “see” the people in costumes you were talking to. However, the rest are glorified podcasts.) And it seems like these virtual conventions DC Fandome failed to impress anyone other than a series of interviews, trailers, and clips for stuff coming out. Maybe when the lockdown finally ends (if they ever allow it) we can get back to having real conventions and livestreams of the events but when the interactions are a bunch of emotionless words on screens you might not even be able to see nobody’s really going to care as much as the real thing.
