Anime fans in America don’t usually get to see anime movies in the US unless the show has gone mainstream, like Yu-Gi-Oh or Digimon, and they’re usually altered to match the TV dub that’s reaching out to a general audience (to the annoyance of the purists because heaven forbid someone now buried in Japanese culture and history get to enjoy something, which Japan neeeeeeeever does to our shows despite their own US purists). Well, you don’t have to wait for you favorite convention to rent a theater or break out a DVD projector to see anime on the big screen…or at least four offerings in April, according to ICv2. Crunchyroll, the anime streaming site is partnering with others to make it happen. No word yet on what’s on the schedule though.

The Super Bowl Ad Fail

BW Super Bowl

Remember when I used to review the Super Bowl ads? The last three years I had reasons why I didn’t, and only two of them were personal tragedies. I was going to do a team-up with Test Zero, one of my fellow Reviewers Unknown members, but that fell through due to not being able to co-ordinate a schedule. But frankly the ads aren’t as fun as they were. They’ve been mostly basic compared to regular ads with no real standouts.

Not that it matters according to video game and movie/TV theorist MatPat. In the latest episode of Film Theory, Matthew Patrick looks into whether or not the Super Bowl ads are even worth being sweated over by advertisers at all. You may be surprised at the answer and the alternative.

Fans who grew up with Sonic The Hedgehog back on the Sega Genesis always knew the name of the guy shoving cute little animals into his robots to power them was named Doctor Robotnik. If you only watched one of the cartoons you also knew him as Ivo Robotnik. I imagine anyone who didn’t keep up with the games and came back recently were surprised to see he was now being called Doctor Eggman. For those of you who didn’t know why, you will now in this trivia video from Gnoggin.
