Chapter By Chapter> Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire ch.26

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Chapter By Chapter Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire

Luke just escaped the bounty hunters, but he and his friends still have to worry about getting past Darth Vader. Well, except for Leia and Chewbacca, who may be face-to-face with a bigger threat…Prince Xizor, leader of the criminal organization Black Sun. Our tale continues.

Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent

Marvel is slowly tossing aside secret identities. I think Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel are it. Maybe Squirrel Girl, I’m not sure. Anyway, one problem with not having an alter ego is not having a job. Because unless you go to work for SHIELD or are Tony Stark nobody is going to hire someone who will keep disappearing to save the day or have their villains come in and blow up the place. Bosses are strict on those things.

But what job is right for which hero? And does changing jobs mean something? (Or for us writers does the job we give a character work for their personalities and the needs of the story? For example, is a reporter really the right job for Superman?) Chris Sims of Comics Alliance delves into this very subject as part of his “Ask Chris” feature.

Jake & Leon #291: Noniversary

Take a marketing gimmick away from Max and Beth becomes the mature one. And she's eight.

Take a marketing gimmick away from Max and Beth becomes the mature one. And she’s eight.

Articles come out almost everyday so when the site anniversary comes in November I should have enough to go with. However, I made so few comics this year because of all the time I was in some kind of medical facility that I didn’t think there were enough comics for a proper “best of”, even this far out from the anniversary of Jake & Leon. So as Leon said next year I’ll do a best of from this round’s strips and the next. It may equal a two-parter but it’s a better plan I feel.

I also plan to return to The Clutter Reports next week as well as finally (more like two weeks, due to something I need to do for my dad) bring back the comic reviews. We’ll see what happened to He-Man as the jewel started to take him over, to Darkhawk as he got flung into null space, and all of the other catching up I have to do. Plus we’ll enter the Wildstorm era of Thundercats comics, to varying degrees of success. But there’s one more week without those and maybe I’ll get some video work done. Maybe. I still get real tired in the afternoons or early evening. It’s not my medical problems so I must be doing something wrong. I need to work on that for my own sake. The battle continues.

Saturday Night Showcase: The Sword Of She-Ra

Princess of Power #1

Actually, you know tonight’s entry by a different name most likely: He-Man & She-Ra: The Secret Of The Sword. This was the one good movie from Filmation’s run before they made mediocre sequels to classic fairy tales Disney adapted. While not the first time this has happened, Secret Of The Sword is actually the first five episodes of She-Ra: Princess Of Power, the girl’s version of He-Man that boys could watch as much as the girls could watch He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe.

For as long as it up (the channel claims to be the official She-Ra channel, complete with the same kind of banner art but are just the shows and none of the trivia and skits of the Official He-Man Channel) this playlist will run all five episodes of the show that formed the movie. You’ll see scenes and moments that weren’t in the movie, which is why I wanted to post this version. It’s collected as the five chapter story under the original name, “The Sword Of She-Ra”. You’ll also note that the opening for the first few episodes hides who She-Ra is (to not spoil it for anyone who hadn’t seen the movie version) before following the brother show’s opening formula. As for the movie, I have plans for it in the future.

Friday Night Fights: Kitty Kick

Here’s a comic I’ve been to before, but we need a fight with a kick and this has it. It also has horrible 90s art, but it’s DC in the 90s. It’s to be expected. We return to the alternate futures of 2001, as viewed by Waverider. Batman is in jail for a murder frame-up so good even he thinks he’s guilty. Catwoman doesn’t believe he is and decides to drop in on two of Penguin’s old goons. Paw in mouth follows.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Pennsylvania Comic Store Robbed

Transformers/G.I. Joe comics

ICv2 reports that the Golden Unicorn Comics store in Pennsylvania was robbed of multiple comics in a storage locker. Joke’s on the robber though. They were terrible 90s Marvel comics that I doubt anybody really wants. Still, hope they catch the person or people responsible.

Nintendo NX Flips The “Switch”

Today Nintendo released info on their new gaming console, previously referred to as the “NX”. It’s not the first time Nintendo teased a new system with a different name. Remember, the Wii was originally called the Revolution, but they thought Wii would be better for a family gaming system. This will be brought up again in my analysis. While other gaming console makers try for better graphics Nintendo prefers to innovate the actual gaming part of video games. The Wii introduced motion controls that changed the way you play games, and while there will always be naysayers it sold very well to every age group. Every one from Baby Dumpling to Grandma Moses were playing this game. When I was in the convalescent home after my first surgery they even had a Wii in the therapy room. (Sadly I didn’t get to play it because my issues were leg and arm strength as well as balance issues.) I did try it in the store or over my cousin’s house and it’s a great system. The Wii U tried to alter gameplay with the touchscreen game pad, basically making a console version of the Nintendo DS, which didn’t go over as well. Sadly, I have never been able to play this system in any form but would love to try it out.

So the question is what innovations has the Switch brought to gaming and will it be more like the Wii or the Wii U?
