“Yesterday’s” Comic> Darkhawk #33

Chris Powell found a strange amulet that allowed him to transform into the mysterious Darkhawk. Recently, Chris learned that his Darkhawk form is actually an android body his mind is transferred to while his real body takes the android’s place on a spaceship in the middle of hyperspace or something. Learning new powers in addition to his own, Chris’s personal life suffers so he can be the “edge against crime”.

Any joke I try to make here will be met with complaints it wasn’t a hentai joke.

Chapter By Chapter> Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire ch. 18

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Chapter By Chapter Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire

The story so far: To get secret revenge on Darth Vader and take his place at the Emperor’s side, crime boss Prince Xizor has framed Vader for the bounty on Luke Skywalker’s head. As he and new ally Dash Rendar travel to the Bothan homeworld to get some secret information, Leia and crew try to make contact with Black Sun, hoping the criminal organization may have some clue as to who wants Luke dead, not realizing it’s the head of Black Sun, namely Xizor, behind it all. And now our story continues.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Adventures In The DC Universe #1

This is actually a new series, part of the DCAU rotation in my reviews but while it is written and drawn in the “Adventures” style (at this point tie-ins to The Adventures Of Batman & Robin and Superman: The Animated Series) it’s allegedly set in regular DC continuity and reflects that universe. Except with the regular DCU sneaks into the Adventures titles despite contradicting what happens in those two and later DCAU TV shows. I put this in the Adventures section because of an annual we’ll see later since none of these tales affects other stories in the DC Universe proper.

In hindsight, taking this group photo on Burrito Tuesday was a bad idea.

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Legacy Of Terra

Terra (comics)

Terra (comics) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Judas Contract is considered to be one of the best events of DC history, even if fans at the time weren’t too happy with what happened with Terra. While Brian Michael Bendis likes to talk about crafting stories over years of reader time, Marv Wolfman and George Peréz took one year to tell the story of a fallen hero (although Terra never really was) and how she nearly destroyed the New Teen Titans. With the recent announcement of a direct-to-video animated adaptation of The Judas Contract announced, CBR contributing writer Tom Bounderant looks through the famous story and the heavily altered adaptation for the previous, GOOD Teen Titans cartoon.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Showcase 94 #8

I’ll be starting this week of reviews with a reminder of what came before my hiatus began, so that we’re all on the same page, since some new people have arrived. (Hello!) Showcase is an anthology series that for some reason DC kept treating like a 12-issue maxiseries. (Too big to be mini, too short to be an ongoing.) I could understand the numbering thing (last time we looked at Showcase 93) if there was a serialized storyline going through it, but there isn’t, at least not in this entry. Maybe there’s a theme I’m missing having so few issues?

Jake & Leon #282: Cartooning Makeover

It's not torture. It's art practice.

It’s not torture. It’s art practice.

Way back in strip #62 Leon tested out an altered style that I may never use for anything important. I was just kind of goofing around. One problem I’ve had with this style is never getting the heads the way I want them. I’m thinking it’s the nose throwing me off but for the longest time I thought the smaller nose looked weird with the larger eyes, or is TOO close to the Simpsons, which is one of the inspirations for this style. What do you guys think? Just look at an earlier strip and compare the two Leons.

In this week’s Clutter Report I did a little more desk cleaning. Not much, but between heat and software issues editing yesterday’s video it’s all I had time to do.

Good news for comic review fans. August 1st is a Monday so I thought this would be the best time to resume “Yesterday’s” Comic! I’d bring back Today’s Comic as well but I still can’t afford new comics. I did get some new comics during my hiatus but it’s been so long that they might as well be reviewed in the “Yesterday’s” feature. More on that next week because I have this group from before I got sick that I should get to first. See you at midnight!

Interviews From ConnectiCon 2016

ConnectiCon logo

Fighting software issues I just barely got this video done in time. Last year I didn’t a chance to do the usual interviews with people tabling at the event. This year…I only got three, but three is better than nothing. So here are a few works you may find interesting.
