BW’s Daily Article Link: The Fictional Theories Of Time Travel

Oh boy do they? Time travel is something I’m not a fan of. If one theory is correct than the proof we never gain time travel is that we still exist. I kind of like what Team Four Star in Dragon Ball Z Abridged referred to as “multiverse theory”, if only because that’s more interesting narratively. Author James Harrington goes over the prevailing theories of time travel and comes to a similar conclusion.

Jake & Leon #482: Sleepless In CT

“Not that I was supposed to, but you didn’t take Mrs. Green’s math class.”

Insomnia was something I dealt with this week, which means my usual issues with my sleep cycle lately got worse. Saturday I was so tired I didn’t even get to do a Clutter Report and I’m lucky I was able to clean my toilet. (It needed it.) Even this comic was late.

So can I do that Art Of Storytelling article this week? Maybe. A Finally Watched would be nice as well. At least I know there will be a Chapter By Chapter review of BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon, except I’ll be reviewing three short chapters instead of one big one. What else will happen? If I can get a good night’s sleep all week we’ll both find out. Have a good week, folks. Sleep well.

Saturday Night Showcase: Ultraman Orb episode 1

Here’s another one that Shout Factory recently posted to their TokuSHOUTsu YouTube channel. Last week we looked at the first Ultraman and tonight we have something a bit more recent, namely my hated year of 2016. So at least something positive happened that year in the areas we discuss. Ultraman Orb is the 28th entry in the series, and according to the Ultraman fan wiki is the 6th chapter of something called the Ultraman Orb Chronicle. My Ultra-knowledge is a bit weak on that. It’s also celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ultraman and the 20th anniversary of previous Showcase posting Ultraman Tiga.

In our first episode we meet Naomi. Her uncle works for the latest anti-monster task force, VTL or Versatile Tactical Leader. (I know some of these shows take place in other dimensions, one takes place in Australia, and two others in America, plus one in Korea I only know through the “New Generation Heroes” shows on Tsuburaya’s YouTube channel, but you’d think they wouldn’t have to change the group name every series. It feels like the Japanese government keeps creating new groups all the time and I keep wondering how many of the old groups they still spend tax money on. Or at least get a better name than “Versatile Tactical Leader”.) At any rate, Naomi and some friends have started their own group, a paranormal research team known as the SSP, the…wait, really? The “Something Search People”? I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than Versatile Tactical Leader. Whatever, the point is the SSP are about to find their paranormal when they have to be saved from a tornado-making monster by the latest Ultra on the planet. Enjoy.

Examining The Night Gwen Stacy Died

For me Peter Parker’s true love will always be Mary Jane Watson, and she wasn’t the love interest I “grew up with”. The only romances I knew he had as a kid was a crush on Firestar and a fling with some lady from the future. I heard in the comics he might be involved with someone named Black Cat but I wasn’t truly exposed to the future former Mrs. Parker due to devil antics until the 90s cartoon. I’m a DC guy, remember? By that point I did know more about MJ than I did Gwen, who at the time was just a character mentioned in a story where Spidey was fighting the raggy ghost dude in the cover above. So as far as Gwen Stacy goes I don’t really care but it’s not like I don’t know why that death mattered to Peter and to the readers at the time.

I’m not sure I’m in the majority about that as movie and comic alike can’t stop referring to her. Sam Rami used her in Spider-Man 3. The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon rewrote her into Peter’s fellow geeky friend because heaven forbid the geeky kid marry someone who isn’t his own kind. 😛 Now we have an alternate universe teen Gwen who is the one who got spider-powers and keeps getting called Spider Gwen because someone doesn’t know how hero names work and ignoring her actual superhero name Ghost Spider, which is clever when you really think about it. Hint: GS. Since insomnia threw off my week and I also needed a nap today I have to keep my planned article for next week (this is becoming a bad habit, body) and need something quick. So from Owen Likes Comics here’s a look into the events leading up to Gwen’s death, the decisions at Marvel that led to it, and some question about whether or not Stan was really that against it despite Gwen being based on his beloved wife.
