Saturday Night Showcase: Frosty’s Winter Wonderland

I know, I’ve said that snow doesn’t necessarily mean Christmas, but this is a special occasion. How many of you remember the REAL sequel to Rankin/Bass‘ Frosty The Snowman. See, when the company closed down the library went all over the place. CBS wanted a sequel but the rights to Frosty’s Winter Wonderland had gone somewhere else. So they created Frosty Returns, a sequel that resembled the original but really wasn’t. Thanks to Dinosaur Dracula tracking it down online I get to show you this special, since ABC Family barely shows Christmas specials anymore and I don’t think it was ever released on DVD. (The Christmas Classics collection I have carries the original and the CBS sequel.)

And it’s important to the Rankin/Bass Christmasverse as Crystal, the character introduced here, also shows up in the “Christmas In July” theatrical movie that crossed over Frosty and a certain red-nosed reindeer. But we’ll get back to him eventually. Let’s focus on the TRUE Rankin/Bass sequel you may not remember, although I remember when it still aired on TV alongside the original.

Friday Night Fights: Fighting Mayhem

There are times when themes throw me for a loop. This time it’s remembering what fights ended with a punch that I haven’t already used, like that time Sledge Hammer punched out Spider-Man. And this week’s comic offerings had nothing for me. At least nothing jaw-dropping. I can do some jaw-punching, so that will have to do. Besides, after seeing a hero punch another hero last week I’m going to pretend this is what it looks like, a villain punching a villain, although that sadly isn’t quite correct.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2 Named

I know we’d all love a Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover but that doesn’t seem likely at the moment. However, Britt Hayes at Screen Crush noticed an accidental notation of the subtitles for the next movie in both franchises from Legendary Pictures. Or it could be someone not realizing what the first US version of King Of The Monsters was. Or maybe Legendary just wants to confuse us about movie titles. We now have three movies just titled Godzilla (don’t start on me purists, the kanji can be romanized with both names so shut it!) and now two called Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. And I really didn’t mind the original name for the Pacific Rim sequel, but I still really need to see the first one.

2016 Christmas Displays

It’s a BW Christmas Spotlight without going around the internet and finding really cool Christmas displays around the world.  What makes a good Christmas display to me? Throwing a bunch of cool decorations isn’t enough. I’ve seen displays I’ve enjoyed more than some of the biggest setups out there because bigger doesn’t always mean better. They’re more interested in showing how cool their decorations are than actually capturing the spirit or magic of the holiday, but some of the big displays succeed in that, so I’m not judging a display based on how much or how little it costs. And really it all comes down to personal taste. So let’s see what’s out there this year.

Transformers Timelines vol. 2 #3

Fun Publications (2008)

Oh, if I’d have realized this was finally coming I would have previewed it in Sunday’s post. We have finally reached a comic I have already reviewed back when it first came out. So what I’m posting today is the original review with some updated thoughts, if only to have it separate from my old “This Week’s Reviews” and give the comic it’s own article. I’ll be doing this from time to time but apparently it starts today. Although I do have to redo the comic credits since I’ve improved my format since those days.
