Chapter By Chapter> Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire ch 7

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Chapter By Chapter Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire

Last chapter focused solely on one group, our heroes, as they arrived where they think Slave-1 is about to stop. They met up with Rogue Squadron and our Han Solo replacement…if Han went into overdrive…Dash Rendar, hero of the video game. Can we keep this train going or are we back to switching between good guys and bad guys again? Let’s get into chapter 7 and find out.

Morning Article Link: The Power Of Slave Leia

Ah, the “Slave Leia” outfit. It brings fans of questionable thoughts at conventions to stare at any hot girl wearing it because she’s a fan of Leia and how she killed a space mobster. Like the “Tifa boobies” we’ve discussed in the past, militant feminists have an issue with the outfit, but a commentary on Breitbart Network, a woman mind you, defends the outfit as something feminists (militant or otherwise) should be praising. Or at least the scene Carrie Fisher was forced to wear it in. As she notes, it’s not sexual objectification we should be putting down but female empowerment we should be celebrating.

(continued from Icon #16) Rift has succeeded in merging the DC and Milestone universes, or at least Metropolis and Dakota. As he decides to get payback on Alva and Hazard, the assembled heroes must distract him while Superman and Icon get the weapon out of their laboratory. Static’s friend Frieda is among the dead now and he’s out for payback but everyone (Static, Rocket, Hardware, Steel, & Superboy) successfully distract Rift long enough for their comrades to complete their mission before Rift destroys the lab. Now off to “deal with lesser heroes” (I’m betting Blood Syndicate since the story continues in their comic next chapter) the heroes lick their wounds and prepare for what may be their last hope to save both universes.

What they got right: I do like seeing the heroes working together with each other and the villains against a worst threat (Rift himself acknowledges himself as the greatest supervillain on Earth…well, Earths). Otherwise it’s just one big fight scene.

What they got wrong: Did I miss or forget something? Why can’t Rocket fly now? Was her belt damaged or low on power? Also, why did it take this long to get Steel’s armor rebuilt? I thought that would happen by the last time we saw him.

Recommendation: A good continuation of the crossover, with only three issues left to go. Still recommending this until we see how this ends.

Jake & Leon #271: Meet The Sister

You know it's Southern California because of the t-shirts in December, and the palm tree.

You know it’s Southern California because of the t-shirts in December, and the palm tree.

I should have gotten the turnarounds done on Jake’s family for this arc. As for Kevin, I haven’t reminded you guys to click the comic for the behind-the-scenes page but Kevin is a character I created for a completely different project, something at my old job before the final owners came. He helped me push quite a few donation thingies during my cashier time. The design isn’t quite the same but the hair is. I think this is the first time I’ve done him in color.

If you want some more creativity I’ve set up my annual Transformers Christmas tree trimming display. And this year I have the stories for it. No other real major events this week except that for Friday’s Ninjak I’ll be sneaking over to his crossover in the Troublemakers series, the Acclaim version of Valiant’s Harbinger idea. Valiant’s take on the Marvel Mutants if memory serves. I think everything else progresses as normal, and yes, I forgot to do the Chapter By Chapter again so it will be Monday night…again, with the intended commentary on Tuesday before I lose interest in it. I’m also going to get something for Christmas Spotlight so if you have something you’d like me to check out let me know.

BW At The Press Junket: Amber Benson & Phil LaMarr

BW At The Press Junket logo

No this isn’t two episodes. It’s one episode with two guests at the same time, even thought they aren’t connected by anything other than being awesome. Amber Benson, mostly known as Tara from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, who is also a novelist and director, and Phil LaMarr, voice and camera actor better known around BW circles for Samurai Jack and the DCAU, team up at the 2015 ConnectiCon press junket. It should be noted that near the end penis jokes pop up, but in the beginning LaMarr picks on us. It’s a different sort of press junket than usual here at the Spotlight.
