BW Panelling: Go Go Power Rangers

BW Panelling spotlight logo

I need to contact Linkara to see if there’s still a way to get History Of Power Rangers on the Spotlight after the collapse of Blip. (His current player doesn’t offer embed codes and my host is picky over who can embed what. I was surprised there was a code for Audioboom.) In the meantime we have this panel from ConnectiCon 2015. Jason “Skull” Narvy, David “Billy” Yost, Karan “Aisha” Ashley, and Austin “Jason” St. John were in attendance and discussed their time on the show and what they’ve been up to. Also there IS a reason Ghost Rider is being used for Narvy’s “Ranger Helmet” as you’ll see at the end of the video.

Friday Night Fight: Darkhawk Is A Cut-Up

First, we’ve been informed by Spacebooger that due to some personal events, the voting for this round won’t be going up until Saturday morning. So keep the link for tomorrow to vote. Remember, you don’t need to join the forum to vote, only to comment. The link will be in the image at the end of the article as usual. Now on to business.

For the last round prior to the Prize Fight I bring Darkhawk to the fold. As you may recall from Tuesday, our hero and his friends in the New Warriors were hoping to fix things that went wrong in their lives, having been tricked by Zarrko the Tomorrow Man. Well, Darkhawk had an ace in the hole, a “bomb” that he uses to beat Zarrko at his own game. Zarrko’s bodyguard robot Servitor, however, plays by its own rules.

BW’s Art Soundoff #11: Superhero Reconstruction

Art Soundoff logo

As my readers already know I’m not happy with the modern take on superheroes. I have nothing against most of it, but the tropes everyone claims to “deconstruct” no longer exists. For today’s Art Soundoff, I put on my imaginary hard hat and make the case that it may be time to rebuild the superhero genre for those of us who prefer the classic version.

Our first adventure finds Prince Furrious from planet Morris trying to gather an army of fellow cats to conquer mice across the universe. He comes up with a plan to capture Mighty Mouse in a giant bubble in space. However, a passing meteor shower gives Mighty Mouse an out and he still saves Terrytown’s mouse population. A fun story.

A shorter story has the Devil (who is of course a cat) tired of Mighty Mouse stopping him from making things miserable in Terrytown. So he sends an army of winged cats to cause havoc. Mighty Mouse takes care of them all, so the Devil goes after our hero himself. Apparently he doesn’t like water because it’s the fire department that comes to Mighty Mouse’s aid. Outside of the fourth wall breaking it was okay.

For my fellow Mighty Mouse fans this is worth looking up as a curiosity. Spotlight (the publisher out of Waterbury I mentioned Sunday) only published, from what I can tell, two issues and two specials. For non-fans this issue wasn’t anything spectacular and you may not have the same interest.

BW-Approved Kickstarter: #BringBackMST3k (official)

And you know you'd buy it just to see how weird it is.

And you know you’d buy it just to see how weird it is.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 started the craze of riffing cheezy movies. It moved on to bad movies, and then someone realized that even good movies had some weird ideas. The last three hosts of MST3K have moved on to Rifftrax but while fans enjoy it, they also miss the skits and characters of the show that started it all.

The creator of the series, Joel Hodgeson, has been trying to get back in the game for awhile now. While he left his show to pursue other projects, he still had a connection to it, and even tried to bring the idea back with his own riffing show, Cinematic Titanic, along with other MST alums. Now he has the opportunity to bring back the series that started it all, thanks to the help of Shout Factory and hopefully…you!

The Kickstarter page explains what they need that much money for (basically Kickstarter stuff plus capital for the episodes but it explains more than I can here). As I write this in the afternoon it’s already met half of its first goal, three episodes. I wonder what stretch goals they might come up with if they get all 12 episodes?
