Friday Night Fights: Hardware Says “No Means No”

Rape is a thing that happens to women…at least according to the modern writers. It’s used to either give women character…somehow…or for the men to save the day or get revenge. Sometimes the women get to save someone else from being raped or get revenge, but rape is just a plot device, and an overused one at that. There was a time that it was only used to make a statement about how rape is. At the point of this story it was already reduced to something for the hero to stop or avenge, but hadn’t reached “give women a dark & sympathetic backstory” just yet. So we can still enjoy rapists getting beat up. But when it’s someone with an overpowered, overweaponized armor like Hardware…it seems like overkill.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Metal Guardian Faust #6

Metal Guardian Faust #6

I am not comfortable with a 12-year-old on the bed like that.

Metal Guardian Faust #6

Viz Comics (1997)

originally published by Shogakukan, Inc

“Revelations”
WRITER/ARTIST: Tesuro Ueyama
ADAPTATION: Matt Thorn
TOUCH-UP ART/LETTERER: Mary Kelleher
COVER DESIGN: Viz Graphics
EDITOR: Annette Roman

Donner screws up Blitz’s trap for Faust by attacking the hero. Donner launches more attacks based on the trumpets from the book of Revelation and Faust has to play dead to figure out how to get past them. He overhears Blitz talking about having to stun Rushiha and wanting to play with her and this gets him mad. He takes out Donner in part by tossing Blitz at him when he fires. With Donner taken away by Cupid the power returns to the city and Faust gets away with his charge. However, Blitz isn’t as deactivated as everyone thinks.

What they got right: I kind of like how the two bad bots don’t get along or coordinate plans. It was a good way for Faust to avoid the trap that we didn’t see coming.

What they got wrong: I thought there would be more secrets about Faust, the mystery woman, or Angel’s obsession with being human…something about the mysteries in this story. Instead the title is either misleading or referring to the source of the names for Donner’s attack, which is kind of lame if that’s the case.

Recommendation: I’m still enjoying this series and still recommending it.

Twist endings are nothing new in movies, something the viewers didn’t see coming. Life does that to you occasionally, too, but I doubt you’d encounter anything like these 5 twists from ScreenCrush‘s Matt Singer. One of these may make you mad and there are (obviously) spoilers for this one.

Game Theory Defends Internet Celebrities

Game Theory logo

Any time a new form of media comes out the old guard will rally against it. It happened with movies, it happened with comics, it happened with animation, and of course it’s happening with video games and the internet. So imagine putting the two together and you can see why let’s players and other internet celebrities are getting the short end from the “normal” entertainment sources. MatPat of Game Theory shows us that not every troll is in the comments section. Yeah, I’m calling it as I see it after seeing this.
