BW’s Daily Video: A Revelation On Netflix’s Masters Of The Universe

Catch more Midnight’s Edge on their YouTube channel.

Notice that they aren’t just saying Teela and Evil-Lyn are overmuscled. Even He-Man overdoes it. Their kiddie and somehow less accurate version they’re putting out is even worse but at least they’re going for an unrealistic style. Though now that he mentions it He-Man looks worse in that version. His chest alone looks like something Rob Liefeld spit out and someone at least tried to improve, but again that’s a “cartoony” style. Netflix just likes heir overmuscled heroes, don’t they?

Commercials That Need To Die: Zelle’s Introductory Campaign

On the rare occasions something comes up from this series I’m worried I’m giving them free promotion while trashing an ad campaign that fails. This time I’m just kind of annoyed personally and want to see if anyone else shares my pain. I mean, I know I’m not the only one who hates those Dr. Squatch ads on principle alone, and don’t even want to follow the guy doing the ads to other products. You don’t get to decide what makes me a “man”, dude.

Instead we’re looking at a series of ads from the latest entry in the banking app craze, Zelle. What is Zelle? Honestly that’s all I know about them. They help with banking and it shows up in other banking apps, but I do very little banking over the computer or through apps. I’m old…which fails as an argument because my dad has no problem with it and he can’t even work his tablet. I will give the ad creators credit for having what I assume is a white man marrying a black woman and accepting her kids. At the very least he’s living there and nobody seems to care. The kids don’t look interracial so I’m assuming they’re from a previous relationship. It’s a rare thing to see, but good on them. It’s still more acknowledgement of interracial relationships not being a weird thing than anything else on TV. It’s too bad these two adults are way too obsessed with their product.

BW’s Daily Video: A Poorly Researched GoBots Audio Adventure

WARNING: Terrible theme song cover coming. If you hated the song already, this is worse.

Catch more like this from RetroRoboRadio on YouTube.

“Robo Machine” was the European version of the GoBots, starting out as a separate Machine Robo international release before merging with GoBots because they were getting the Challenge Of The GoBots show over there. They got a few things wrong.

  • His name is just Dumper, not “GoBot-dumper”. Also, Spay-C is somehow a better name than “GoBot-shuttle”. I love GoBots but how do you make the naming scheme WORSE?
  • Speaking of Spay-C, she’s a girl GoBot like Crasher, who is a bit too psychotic even for her. Crasher does follow orders, you know.
  • Thruster is not a rocket.
  • AJ has darker skin than that. This one looks interracial but show AJ is fully black.
  • I don’t know what the ASC is but Matt isn’t a cadet, he’s a full on pilot and as a Guardian liaison still ranks higher than “cadet”.
  • Did I mention the cover of the theme sucks?

I thought you guys might want to see this. I found it interesting, but I think I’ll stick with the show.

TJ Omega Makes A Better Power Rangers Megaforce

The “Neo-Saban” period of Power Rangers is rather confusing. You’d think Saban getting the franchise back from Disney would lead to something that still feels like Power Rangers. It does mostly but there are some rather headscratching decisions being made. Nickelodeon really restricted their groove but that’s no excuse for oddities like the second season throwing “super” into the title or the disaster that is Power Rangers (Super) Megaforce. What should have been the anniversary series–the second Sentai series used for the “super” season, Pirate Squadron Gokaiger, was an anniversary for Super Sentai, the franchise that Power Rangers gets most of its action footage from–was put into the hands of someone who couldn’t care less. The end result was something that seemed like a cheap knockoff of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers without any idea why that show worked and started this franchise. Hasbro’s two shows are a better tribute and neither of them have been in an anniversary year. You can catch Linkara’s review of the two seasons for more on its failings.

Sadly, this is the one where I finally get a namesake Ranger, and the RED Ranger (aka the leader of the team), and it’s on this version and not a very interesting version. Thanks for nothing, creators!

One of the video projects I’ve been wanting to do is taking what could have been a good show, movie, or character, and fixing what I think is wrong without completely re-imagining everything the creators were doing because that would make me a hypocrite. Whether or not you guys would want to see that I’m not certain, but I’m using TJ Omega as a trial run for the concept, though my format would be a bit different. In the video below TJ takes a look at the show and proposes some much needed changes that would have given us the show that would have been a good anniversary season and a more enjoyable product overall. He does reference Gokaiger as if folks know the show because he’s a fan of both Power Rangers and Super Sentai, but otherwise it should be easy enough to follow. Imagine if the show had gone more like this.

BW’s Daily Article Link: G4 Sets The Relaunch Date

Here is the full announcement, including the returning and some of the new shows currently declared. Xplay and the original Ninja Warrior, including the seasons they didn’t get to air before, are the reasons I’m hopeful. Attack Of The Show will have to convince me it’s not going to continue where it left off but go back to being the show I liked. Hopefully Frontier Communications pick it up since it’s not one of the announced TV networks and Connecticut takes forever to get anything, but there are apparently online options coming as well. I just can’t record those to watch later.
