Chapter By Chapter> Spider-Man: Carnage In New York chapter 13

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

This was bad timing given what’s going on out there right now, with New York being one of the hardest hit areas. Back when I started the book, and yes I remembered the novel’s plot at least (plus it’s right there on the back cover) our current viral supervillain wasn’t bringing up any more concern than the flu, and now it and the reaction to it have us all locked away scared. So here’s a story enforcing that. Sorry about that.

Carnage is loose and with a dangerous chemical in his possession and Spidey needs to stop him. We’re only 13 chapters in so I’m betting it won’t happen today. We have enough time for things to get worse, so let’s see how worse it gets.

BW’s Daily Article Link: Jar Jar Schools Star Wars

In a recent interview Ahmed Best, who played Star Wars fan’s former favorite hate target Jar Jar Binks, discusses his new Jedi Temple Challenge kids game show for Disney Plus. During the interview, Best also brings up something missing in modern Star Wars, and it’s also something missed by both Rey haters and Rey supporters in how the Force is represented by DisneyFilm versus how LucasFilm approached the concept.

Jake & Leon #449: Disney Vs Animation

This is one of those times I worry I’m giving them bad ideas.

I could almost handle a movie with human Robin Hood though as others have pointed out what different will they bring to the table if they use the same tone or even script (ala The Lion King) if they did that? And it wouldn’t be a CG remake, except again like The Lion King because I doubt they’ll use make-up or animatronic suits. This really is a dumb idea, but that hasn’t stopped Disney with these other live-action remakes. When did Disney start hating their animation libraries?

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I got a little work done but I want to get back to doing some major clutter cleaning projects.

Apparently I was wrong about being out of Scooby-Doo comics. While looking for the next comic I found a whole bunch of them in the wrong spot so that’s continuing. It makes me wonder how badly I screwed up during the sorting project because this isn’t the first time this has happened. It’s getting on my nerves. So more Scooby this week. I haven’t quite decided what I want to do for the rest of the week but despite the shutdown on the comic and studio front due to the social distancing (and yet pro wrestling continues sans audience) there are still news coming out so I’m sure a topic will show up. Hope you had a Happy Easter somehow during all this.

Saturday Night Showcase: World Ninja War Jiraiya

After the screw-up by Toei when it came to activating their new YouTube channel early and thus subjecting it to a takedown from their own copywrite bots, they have it up and running so of course I checked it out. Japanese superheroes are a bit different from American ones, with exceptions like Gatchaman, Tiger & Bunny, and My Hero Academia outside of secret identities (and I could be wrong about MHA) not always being a concern. I think the Gatchaman team had them, which is funny when Battle Of The Planets, the first US dub, didn’t. Usually it features teens in spandex, guys in bug suits, or people in armor battling monsters. Of the shows on the Toei Tokusatsu channel I could have checked out at least three of them were used in Saban’s VR Troopers in the same way Sentai is used for the Power Rangers franchise. However, the one I decided to check out first was Jiraiya and I was a tad surprised.

World Ninja War Jiraiya (the show’s full name but not the one used in the video) follows the battles of a ninja in training forced to protect an important object from other ninja. Curiously, if the first episode is to be believed, our hero Toha Yamaji appears to be fighting other humans in different costumes, not space creatures. One of them is, I kid you not, a British knight on horseback who occasionally says something in English. I’m not sure if this is going to be unintentionally hilarious or actual good but a bit weird. Check out the first episode and see what you think. But remember, in order to get the English subtitles (sadly not including the opening and closing theme) you’ll have to turn on the closed captions. Just click the [CC] next to the gear in the player controls.
