BW V-Log: Update Vs. Re-Imagining

mask-2-idw

Look, I don’t have a problem with a new take on an old idea, including ones I grew up with. However, how that’s handled can fail to attract me and ultimately disappoint me. In this v-log I try to explain why a re-imagining isn’t an update, and it has nothing to do with quality of the product.

Friday Night Fights: Fight Baddies With Baddies

I was hoping we weren’t going to have another theme tournament. I don’t know my collection that well, as Clutter Reports readers can figure out after my recent organizing project. I have just too many. However, at least this theme is an easy one. If just one of the comics I review during this tournament has an onomatopoeia (or sound effect in written form) I’m good. And I’ve got a good one to start.

The X-Men don’t usually fight ordinary crooks like some of their superhero brethren. They usually fight other mutants. Nobody told the Angel that when he started his career, using his mutant powers to simply fight crime. Granted there was no X-Men at the time, but it’s still a rare sight to see. And we’re going to watch it now through the magic of recreation in a cartoony style.

Boom! round 1

Hey, if the fights need sound, why not the fight logo? I had this old one from a different tournament.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Marvel’s Trade Waiter Assist

Marvel Logo

Marvel and DC pretty much forced the trade market into existence, now writing for the trades while still making the regular comic books. This is a problem because it’s harder to know what to read first since you can’t just mix and match during crossovers. So Marvel is creating a set of pages in their trades and online to organize the timeline for “trade waiters”. That just shows how badly they’re messing up their timelines when online resources to follow the history (or in some cases histories) of a certain character or events in that reality.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> NiGHTS Into Dreams #4

I wrote #3 as the last issue because I thought this was a new miniseries. Well, it isn’t. The story continues into #4. I’ve since updated that.

Internet Spotlight: DIY Prop Shop

diy-prop-shop-logo

One of the things I love about going to conventions are the costumes, and some costumes aren’t complete without the props, representations of tools and weapons used by the characters they’re portraying. You can buy them; I own a phaser from Star Trek, a Sonic Screwdriver from Doctor Who, and a Cell Shift Morpher (although I’m missing one of the cells) from Power Rangers RPM. However, for those who have the skills, and mine never rose above papercraft (I’ve created numerous wrestling belts and Space Ghost’s Power Bands), it may be cheaper and more creative to design your own.

There’s a show on Awe.Me’s YouTube channel, the same channel that brings you Man At Arms, called DIY Prop Shop. This one takes less metal forging and more foam & plastic work, but it’s interesting watching the various hosts bring your favorite gadgets to life, even if it isn’t as dramatic as watching your favorite swords be built. I’ve chosen some of my favorites for this sample, raging from tools to non-melee (and non-shooting for obvious reasons) weapons. While I can’t build any of this stuff you might find something you’d like to construct.
