BW Filler Videos: The Importance Of Godzilla Versus Kong (and who might win)

I’m still willing to make this comic, IDW. I have a contact page.

This summer’s Godzilla Vs. Kong, the latest chapter in Legendary’s “Monsterverse”, will hopefully not go the way of the other hero versus hero movie parent company Warner Brothers put out recently. While the Godzilla movies under this banner have had their pluses and minuses, Kong: Skull Island was the first time something other than a remake received positive praise. It would be nice to see an updated Mechakong (I’m sure it’s not just me), I’ll be happy if we don’t get giant monkey pacemakers and matchmaking. Even Kong’s cartoons haven’t always lived up to the legacy, while Godzilla’s have either been pretty good for the time or actually improving a namesake’s questionable movie.

The tales of King Kong and Godzilla in cinematic history have a surprising number of comparisons and contrasts. While the Big G has managed to create a huge franchise the big K’s legacy is a beloved first movie, a decent but really long remake, and a bunch of other movies with questionable support. However, both are a huge part of our culture, both have fought in the past, and both have not had the best attempts at being a dad more than once. Kajiu discussion channel Up From The Depths takes a look at the shared history of the two both before and after their original 1962 slugfest.

BW’s Daily Video: How To Study Stories And Learn From Them

Catch more Abbie Emmons on her YouTube channel.

And here’s a link to sign up for her Writer’s Life Wednesday material, including the study guides mentioned.

Another method could be start your own blog and examine stories you like or should like but don’t to see what they did right and what they did wrong. That’s what I do. 😀

Chapter By Chapter> BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon chapter 30

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

That’s right, only one chapter to read this week. Chapter 30 meets my minimum length requirements and so I only have to do one. I like when that works out.

Last time we saw Joanna and Diana about to take a stroll in the desert to where Joanna once lost a big battle. Ah, memories. I’m sure the enemy camping nearby has nothing to do with it. Will we see explosions? Let’s find out.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> DC Kids Free Comic Book Day Mega Sampler 2010

It’s like the anti-Snyderverse.

DC Comics Mega Sampler 2010

DC Kids (July, 2010)

COVER ART: Art Baltazar & Franco

I gave this a quick go over during the 2010 Free Comic Book Day haul. Since that time I know at least two of the three stories in this comic ended up being reprinted in the comics they were based on. I’ll link to the review of those issues…or at least the two I have. While I was a regular reader of both Batman: The Brave & The Bold and Billy Batson & The Magic Of Shazam! I only have a couple of Tiny Titans comics and none of them had the story in this sampler.

Jake & Leon #487: I Forgot To Change The Comic Title

That’s supposed to be next week’s title, dimwit! Was so wrapped up in getting my settings right I forgot to change it.

Actually I’m doing this whole post on the new artputer, which I worked on in this week’s Clutter Report. I still have more to do but I think this is going to work out. Though for some reason the 3D models still don’t work on this one. I’m starting to think Clip Studio just doesn’t like laptops.

So this week’s posting schedule is going to be a total mess. If I hadn’t lost so many weeks being sick…then actually this week wouldn’t have been a mess, but I would just call the week a wash. I’m going to try to get at least the non-comiXology comics (in other words the ones I physically own) reviewed this week and at some point there will be the next installment of our Chapter By Chapter review of BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon as we’re almost done with that book, but darned if I know when they’re coming out. Hopefully next week won’t be this difficult and I’ll be done having issues for the year but we’ll see what happens. Have a good week, everyone!

Saturday Night Showcase: Stingray

In a recent Saturday Night Showcase we watched Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, one of Gerry Anderson’s famous “Supermarionation” series. In the intro article I mentioned that I used to watch a collected movie of Stingray episodes on Saturday syndication. Well tonight we get to watch the first episode.

Stingray takes place underwater in another of those near future stories that allows the world to look like modern day but still have tech that doesn’t yet exist. The show follows Troy Tempest (there aren’t enough heroes named Troy in my opinion, but seeing as that’s my first name I’m a bit biased) and his partner “Phones” as they protect the surface world from an underwater race that seeks to destroy it. As part of the WASPs (World Aquanaut Security Patrol, a branch of the World Security Patrol…which seems otherwise odd to name your aquatic peacekeeping team after a flying insect), our heroes are joined by the silent mermaid Marina in fighting the ship subs of their underwater enemy. This was the first Supermarionation show in color and yet the underwater effects work quite well for the time. Enjoy
